check engine light on

my engine light turned on last night cruisen around. There is also a hissing or whistling coming from the engine on the passenger side. Im thinking a hose cracked cause it just started freezing here the last couple weeks. Has anybody else had this happen or know what it is?

im thinking its a cracked vaccum line. No other opinions? [img]shrug.gif"%20border="0[/img]

Try the FAQ, there's a piece 'bout engine codes, but there's no harm in taking off your intake tubing 'n having a look for cracks! Seems to me it happens a bit, between the ridges mainly, just glue it back together

Whatever its going to be it'll be looked at by mazda dealer tommorow. So im getting my wallet ready

i have to say screw dealerships! there are plenty of capable shops around that will do just as good work and charge you significantly less, although you have to be careful and find someone you can trust, i have an awesome shop and they bend over backwards for me, i take my car there and tell them whats wrong and they looik at it for free, so before youspend 400 bucks just to find out theres a 20 dollar piece ya need look around!

actually thats exactly what i did an hour before reading your post. I found a shop that a couple other guys with mx-3's use and they are very fair and are known for good work. (This shop also done an engine swap for the best mx-3 in Manitoba).

Code 16 came up when I did the check. 16 is Exhaust gas recirculaton system(EGR). What exactly is that and how would I find out whats exactly wrong with it? Whats required to fix this problem? Any help would be apreciated.

You should try searching for egr and see what has been said about it in the past. Before I start a new post I always search beforehand.

I did look in there and i even tried a home remidy of blocking up one of the tubes thats loose because of my cone air filter. But no go. So its going to the shop friday now (not the dealer)
