High revs & squealling on startup

When I start my '96 GS auto, the car seems to rev at around 1200-1800 rpm's, and sometimes there's a squealling noise. Once I shift into drive or reverse, it goes back down to approx. 800 rpm's. This usually happens during a cold start. If I've been driving, shut off the car, and the start again, it seems to be fine. Anyone experienced this before. Thanks.

That seems normal on a cold start. Idle is always up when you first start your car and as it warms up your idle should gradually go down and as for the squealing sound, thats probably your belts. You might need to adjust the tension or get new ones.
