Quick oil consumption question

Post by AbRasiF »

Hi all,
Just a quick question. I recently bought a 95 GS (~110000km, standard) and had so much problems with it that the dealer decided to change the engine. The new engine is also from a 95 GS but has ~130 000km. We are currently running an oil consumption test on it and it burned 1 liter of oil in ~1600km. That sounds way to much, right?

Yeh,.. mine doesn't even burn that much.
Put some of that valve/gasget sealer fluid in there, it helps.

If the dealer replaced your engine and the new engine is burning that much, I'd take it back to them. If your going through any more than a liter per oil change, that's too much for an engine that's working correctly.
Steve

Wouldn't this have something to do with the oil squirters on our pistons. I know the 4cyl have them but I heard the K8 does too

Hi all,
Experiencing the same noted problem with my baby. In reading replies, I've noticed that this seems to be an occurring problem with V6's. My question is as follows: What is the best recommended sealer on the market these days? Thanks in advance....

That dealer wishes he had never sold you that car. I'm sure he's not making a whole lot of money off you now, if even at all. My car burns oil too......I have to throw a litre in between oil changes.
Better to slow down a little on wet roads or else this is what you get http://www.wreckedexotics.com/other/other247.shtml I miss my car .........but it'll be back soon!

Unless you can find the oil under the car in your parking place, you can be buring that missing oil through piston rings or valve seals/guides.
In my case there was the valve seals.
Look what we found when we were fixing the problem... :)
Miguel Fides, '92 Mx-3 1.8L V6

If you spent that much rebuilding why didn't you swap a KLZE?

Total expected cost of a KL03 engine in Spain is about 2500$. KLZE is nearly impossible as nobody specializes in swaps and therefore nobody is in engine import bussiness.
Then you have to add labour, etc.. :(
