car died...

Post by dabudah »

Ok...so I'm driving home on I-81 last night and stop to get a snack. As I pull into the gas station my oil light comes on. I didn't think much of this since it happened to my mx-6 before, and I just added some more oil and was fine. So I top off my oil and get back on the road. I make it about 12 miles when all of a sudden my car will not go over 50 mph. I tried downshifting to no avail, then my car just cuts off . I coast to the shoulder and pop the hood. Everything looks normal until I notice a spattering sound by the coolant, so I look down, and its just spilling out. Then I notice a little smoke coming from this area, go inside, and no doubt, the temp is at H . So I let it sit and cool down, try to restart, and get a clicking sound, but nothing else. Meanwhile my engine and charge lights are on, and by the time I walk to a gas station and get back to the car, the battery is dead. I tried jumping it, but it still would not start. So now its sitting in some garage in nowhere, va and I'm wondering if any of you have any idea what's wrong with it... Sorry for the long post, but this ruined my weekend and I would like to figure out what's up.

no oil = bad
i'm guessing the engine is ceased too...
Oh yea, if you need a new motor, upgrade to the 2.5L, it'll probably be cheaper than replacing the 1.8L, and you'll love the difference

Well the car didn't die until after I added the oil... But right now its sitting in some shop, so they're gonna look at it tomorrow. I had actually bought the car planning on the swap (I owned a v-6 mx-6 before, this was a step down for me) but my plans for a ZE fell through over the summer. So if my engine is dead, that sucks, but I'll prob. be getting a KL-03 put in if that's the case. (Unfortunately I don't have the resources or time really to do it myself) Thanks to all who've replied, if someone knows anything else it could be, then let me know, b/c I'd like to have some hope that I don't need to spend the money (that I don't have) on the swap right now...

Sounds similar to what happened to my 94 MX3 a few years ago...(V6). Oil all over the place...engine didn't seize, but gasket blew...rods, pistons bent. It happened at 100 000KM. Engine light on, oil light on. Pulled over, tried to start again, and the clicking sound. It wasn't pretty.

Ok, so some mechanic looked at it today... they said it had no oil at all, so they added some and got it to start, but that it made a lot of noise when it ran. So maybe the engine isn't blown, just messed up  ... How did you end up solving your problem Marksoden?
