Re: Differences?
Re: Differences?
The AZ-3 is a Jap import only. It came in manual or automatic, with slightly different styling to its UK/US counterpart.
With my limited knowledge of the other MX-3 models, the AZ-3 seems to have greater similarities to the 1.8 model chassis, rather than the 1.6 model.
The engine is a 1498cc 4cyl twin-cam (overhead) DOHC with EFI. As far as I can tell, the engine is the j-spec B5-ZE (I believe the ZE represents performance model).
This particular engine is quite difficult to find out about (most of the info I could find is Japanese). Mazda shops here in Ireland are very unhelpful and info is scarce. If anybody has more on this subject or regarding transmission (I'm guessing its F25M-R) etc., please help out!
The engine puts out an impressive 115bhp @ 6500rpm (far higher than the 1.6 model). The car comes with all extra's except s/r. Brakes are front disks, back drums (ABS on some later models).
I've heard a number of negative remarks about the AZ-3. This is mostly due to the fact that they are not well known. This leads to lot of confusion and rediculous prices being asked for spare or replacement parts (many are interchangable across the model range).
I'm an AZ-3 owner myself - all in all, I reckon this is the most kick-a-- 1.5 Mazda ever built!

Re: Re: Differences?
The Autozam AZ-3 began production in 1991 with the 1.5 16 valve DOHC engine. In 1993 the was 1.8 V6 24 valve DOHC also used in the Autozam AZ-3 with both models being produced at same time.
The Eunos Presso was available in 1993 with the 1.8 V6 24 valve DOHC and the 1.5 16 valve DOHC engine.
In both the Presso and the AZ-3 the 1.6 litre versions were never produced.
