I just bought 6.5 200 Watt Sony Xplod speakers, and wanted to know if they would fit in the doors, and I also bought 5.25 xplods for the rear. Will I have to make any modifications for the speakers to fit. The techs at Crutchfield told me the 6.5 would not fit.
Thanks,
Anthony

Re: 1992 MX3 Speaker Measurements?
I have 6.5's in the front with no problem. Mine are deeper than the stock ones they replaced so I had to fabricate a 1/4" thick backboard "trim ring" out of plywood so the window had clearance to go down. Don't know about the depth clearance required on the Sony's but it sounds like you should have no prob.

Figured a good way to mount aftermarket in the doors.
1. Take Stock Speakers out
2. Remove protective plastic back of stock speakers (just held on by glue)
3. Hold plastic speaker protectors in speaker hole
4. Place aftermarket speaker in hole.
5. If speaker touches the back of the protecter, you gots ta make a spacer. If it doesn't - your good to go!!!
The protector is good at keeping dripping water off the speaker and the weak terminals....

I tryed to fit some INFINATY 16.5cm in my door they were far too deep. Dont for get you will need a mounting plate Because our cars use a 3 point screw fit, and most speakers are a 4 point fix.

I got 6.5s in the front and they fit fine. I also got 6x9s in the back so a 5.25 should fit fine in the back.
