6X9 Speaker mounting.

Post by Spotted »

Has anyone ever tried to put 6x9s in the doors?
I have been toying with the idea.
If anyone has done it, pleased share your experience.
Thanks

Yeah, remember reading somewhere a year or tow ago that a guy put 6X9's in his doors. I had a nice pair layin around for another car that I never put in so decided to give it a try. Gave up the idea after taking all the measurements though. Would have required cutting the sheet metal to enlarge the opening, fabricating an mdf adaptor to allow the window to have clearance and the speaker dimensions were slightly too large to allow for reinstalling the MX-3 door speaker grills.

I installed HD 6.5" replacements instead which still required fabricating an MDF adaptor but otherwise fit perfectly & allowed reuse of the MX-3 door grills. Ended up installing the 6X9's in the rear.

It can be done, atleast it can be on a ford and since mazdas are made by the same folks... it is a pain though. Make friends with a local stereo installer. Or birbe An installation tech at Best Buy!
Now, if I can just find the girl who bought my mx3 2 or 3 years ago....

It would have to be a shallow mount 6x9. Best bet is go with good 6.5 or 5.25 components. I am building Fibreglass bods over my current speaker grills. I will get picks up soon!!!
Without signs in the world we would be lost. Wheres your sign?? HARSHFX SIGNS
