Sub Placement

Post by SirCruizer »

Ok I saw a MX-3 on here somewhere that had 3 subs in the hatch. One was facing towards the right rare, rare, and then left rare.. Ive seen this done in another car before but it rattled like you wouldnt belive. Would the reason you do this because of the looks or is there something you can do so it doesnt rattle at all. I know you can get that sound proof stuff but I wouldnt think that would stop the rattling if the subs were placed like that... I am buying 2-3 MTX 12 8000 and want the best bass possible without any ratteling at all. Maybe someone has thier MTX in IASCA comps and can help me with placements of bass speakers? BTW, I will be in IASCA competitions starting next year, so come see me in OKC, TULSA, and possiblly surronding areas...
------------------
You haven't lived life untill you have lived it one second at a time!

well, since i plan on competing in comps as soon as i build my box(2 10" JLs) i've been researching. the plastic molded "garnished" trunk of our cars are very thin! all of the rear panels will vibrate. to elminate this i propose three options:
1) use spray foam to fill the holes.
-caution- foam expands and can push on and bend the body panels of the car. bumps can form if you use too much!
2) sound-deaden the back of the plastic panels and deaden the body behind these panels
3) take off the panels and custom make more solid panels of of mdf and carpet them. this'll give it a nice look, too!
either way you should deaden the trunk atleast. i've read a post on sounddomain.com and this guy said that between first place and fifth place in the last comp he was at, there was a .5dB gap. sound-deadening will add around 1 dB.
goodluck
------------------
93 MX-3
