one thing you need to try is yo get into safe mode

(if yo dont know how, as soon turn on the computer, keep tapping the f8 key and it will bring up a text based menu, and use the arrow keys to highlight safe mode and press enter to select. If you get a keyboard error, just press f1 to continue and then keep on pressing f8 again., If you never saw the menu and windows starts loading, you've gone to far and will needto reset and try again)

If you can't get into safe mode, your looking at a format and re-install of windows. You could always try re-installing windows overtop of itself, but it rarely fixed problems

what did you download curt? Depending on the program you may be able to uninstall using a program i have. Do you have a 98 boot disk? If so, run that and see if the problem goes away.

Do this...

if its win98...

Boot and press f8 before windows starts.

Select "COMMAND PROMPT ONLY" from the Startup Menu

when @ the prompt type this

SCANREG /RESTORE

It will bringup a menu allowing you to restore your registry from a backed up version. CHECK THE DATES. Select one from the list that was BEFORE you installed this software.

Yup, as stated previously, your best bet is to boot into safe-mode and then do some cleaning up and scanning from there.

As for the registry recover, yeah, it'll effectively make it appear to your computer that no new programs after that date had been installed, however, the files will still be on your drive. Only executable files will be affected (I believe), so documents you made after that point should still be fine.

However, to be safe, I would recommend you take the harddrive out of your computer, and plug it in as a slave in a friends computer. This way, you can move all of your documents off of the harddrive onto his, for safe keeping while you try to fix your computer. As may be the case with Win98...you may probably have to reformat the harddrive and re-install Windows :-(

In the future, if you want to get rid of spyware, Ad-Aware is very good, especially when used concurrently with SpyBot Search & Destroy (both are free programs). They will catch everything except for the custom written ones. Good luck with fixing your computer.

Nah, with the magic of compression, music should only take up 100MB, leaving the rest to the more important pr0n ;)

use SPYBOT....for spyware.
Its updateable and its free.

Becareful with that SHOPATHOME spyware. I had an issue where when I removed it, I lost internet access. and had to put it back to get back online. A person here @ work was having PC problems and I found tons of spyware.

The scanreg/restore will work just fine as long as you havent applied any windows/IE patches and restore the registry to a time prior to the updates. This works. When I was doing tech support for Dell and Gateway, I used it all the time. I still use it on some PCs when it has issues. IF its fast enough, use XP.
