Soon to be a owner of a Mx-3 *yay*

Post by Thatguy »

Ok, yesterday i was out looking for cars, and happened to find this 92 Mx-3 4cyl (didnt check if it was DOHC or SOHC) because when i saw it had around 200,000 miles i figured my mom would never let me get it... so we move on. Find out today that i might be getting it! w00t! (like a really good chance of getting it) called today but the guy wasnt there, its a 5-speed... which im capable of driving, and decided my next car would be a 5-speed. But the car is in excellent condition, except has 200,000 miles... for around 2,000 dollars think its worth it? i need a car as my current one is falling apart, and i dont have much cash.... also, where would be a good start to bring out some decent HP? I dont care about beeing some rice burner... just enough that when i want it to go, it will go. (and of corse, to occasionally show up the local honda POS hehe)
thanks for any feedback

it was a SOHC, 2 grands is a good deal, you can get rib of the 200,000m engine and drop in the b6t or bpt (tubro) instead.

Try talking them down, I got my 92 rs with 101,000 miles on it for $2300. It needed paint real bad, but with the people I know, it wasn't a problem.

definitely dont pay that much for a 92 with 200,000 miles...try to talk him down to 1500, that would be pretty reasonable. ONce u get it, if you dont want to spend that much money, swap the B6t into it...

Its a good deal, but hear this, my friend (a girl) bought a 98 honda civic coupe ex for $10,000 with 105,000 miles on it. rip off city!! Then I found out her boy friend was with her, what a j.a. Then he cheated on her, she totally got screwed over.

yeah thats an alright price but you could probably talk him down some, with 200K miles you will probably need a new engine/tranny soon enough so i wouldn't put any work into the engine. Just get a bpt or b6t (read 4cyl faq's), sorry to say but the sohc's are pretty weak engines and that "pos honda" might just get the best of you. In the long run you would probably spen less swaping a bpt/b6t then beefing up and mantaining an old sohc. hope this helps and welcome to the board.
Hmm. what to do now..
....maybe a VTEC for lunch.

The guy sold it :( i was the second person to call in on it and leave a message cus he was out of town for the holidays... he called back while I was at school, said he had a potential buyer who had already left a down payment on it and was bringing the rest next week... ill get a call if it falls through, but i doubt it will. Eh, still interested in the mx-3 and ill stick around, maybe someone will stop by here selling one... if not then its off to the police re-po auctions.
l8r,
-Ben
