Does anyone know what that means for a SOHC engine. Is there an easy cam upgrade option avalible for either the 1.8 SOHC or the 1.6 SOHC?

sohc and dohc would be totally different cause you have everything on one cam.

does anyone know if what they discussed would work? using two miata exhaust cams? do anyone know the specs of our cams?

here is some info i was given concerning this mod done on a protege 1.8 using the miata 1.8 exhaust cam:

as far as parts go, you only need the cam. If you have the cam, just cut
off the end that attaches to the distributor(just make it look like the
other intake cam), then install it upsidedown(180°) and three teeth
clockwise. I did all the work myself, and it's pretty easy. You might want
to get a new valve cover gasket, since you'll have it off. It'll work best
with cam gears, since it worked best for me 5° retarded from the position I
installed it from. All you need is the basic hand tools to do the job. If
you have adjustable cam gears, I suggest some dyno time, just to get it all
sorted out. Try advancing your ignition timing too, since I got 7whp with
18° initial advance over the stock 10° advance. I'm assuming your car has an
airflow meter right? Try getting yourself and RX7 AFM too. With those 3
mods, you could get 12whp for less than $100 plus some dyno time.

i know it will be different in our car but this sounds like a good idea... i think i found the specs on our cams.. they have a lift of only 40.8 and the miata is 44.6 (numbers are approximate)... i'm not sure how cams work exactly... but dont' aftermarket cams use the same life/duration on both exhaust and intake? is there anyone who knows if this is truly a possible mod and if it would be worthwile?
