Protege Tranny on a 1.6 sohc?

Hey I think my tranny just went out on me.... I wanna do a BPT swap, but dont have the money. It would make no sense to get a tranny for my 1.6 SOHC now, and then change it again when I change the engine.... would the protege tranny bolt up to my engine? I heard the BPT will bolt to my tranny so it should go in right? What else would i have to change, just the tranny and axles right? Thanks

The clutch is also different. The splined shaft coming out of the tranny has a different spline count. I think it is 22 vs. 20.
