noob swap Q's

Post by shake »

ok, i did searches and have been reading my a@$ off for hte past couple of weeks. i think i want the 323 gtx engine and tranny,i found one for 900 and for an extra 300 they can convert the tranny to fwd.
what i want to know is will this set up drop right in or will i have to modify mounts ect...
is this a good base? i don't wanna be the fastest guy on the road(all though i wouldn't mind) but i would like to at least be faster then my wifes minivan lol.

oh yeah...i have a 92 rs 1.6

thanks in advance for the help guys

What do you mean for $300 they can "Convert" the tranny??

All they would do would be-- not hook up the rear driveshaft & axles... Thats pretty dumb.

You dont need that tranny anyways-- it was the bane of the GTX and broke frequently.

You need the G-Series tranny from a 90-94 Protge LX or Escort GT.

All the mounts will bolt right up-- but you need to get the mount under the battery tray from the Protege/Escort so you can combine it with the one from your car.

ive done the swap...
Perry is 100% correct about using the G-series tranny. I used the SOHC tranny for a while in the beginning and blew up 2 in the course of 6 months of driving time. you HAVE to modify the pro lx jack shaft to get it to work on the B6T(there is a whole thread about this...). the pro lx gears are great for turbo/accelerating but not for highway driving(crazy short 5th gear). i got my motor out of a Capri XR-2 which had a cable tranny so its a no go on those trannies also.
this picture will save you hours of frustration.

fill your mounts with something:shoe goo should do the trick or get the mazdaspeed ones.
check my sig for pics of the swap or email me if you have any other q's
