im only runnin on 3 cylinders was this way when i got it been this way for round 3 years runs rough at idle fine other wise i plan on fixing it but not sure where to start with this one anyone help on how much it might run me 2 fix

First....

see if your getting any fire on that cylinder.
Go ahead and change plugs/wires/cap/rotor.

Could be distributor related, but try the above replacements 1st.

change ur spark plugs <ngk V-power $7> plug wires doesnt matter but about 35-55...distributor cap 55-100 and ur timing belt 25-50 then put some fuel injector cleaner through it with 93oct. if that doesnt clear it up then take it to a shop

regular ngk's will work fine. a timing belt is not needed if you're timing is fine. disty cap is about $20 and the rotor is about $12 from autozone. please do not spread wrong information.

I got my cap and rotor for $55.00 US from my local mazda dealer. They are much cheaper here Genuine mazda parts

wouldnt the car not run if all cylinders werent working? thats what i thought...could be wrong

Most engines will run with one, maybe two missing cylinders. But power is lost and so is smoothness.

A few companies owned by GM actually use a v-8 that run on 8 during heavy accelerations/loads, 6 normal accelerations, and 2 when cruising at a constant speed. They can do this because an engine is only using about 20% of its potenial power at highway speeds.

If your engine is a SOHC, chances are that you lost compression on the 1st cylinder. This seems to be common to the 16 valve B6 SOHC. All the SOHC MX-3s I've seen have 25-30% less compression on this cylinder and run normally but with loss of power. This loss of power has probably gone unnoticed since it would have been a gradual over a long period of time. When they loose 50% or more is when they start or feel rough. This loss of compression seems to be related to valves or valveseats damage.
