Windshield/Windows Constantly Fogged Up

Post by Astalanya »

I have a '94 Mazda MX-3 (no A/C) and lately, the windshield, windows and rear hatchback are fogging up. Defrost isn't helping, I have to constantly wipe down the windows with a cloth. Even having the windows rolled down doesn't help to defog it.

Has anyone else had this problem? I've tried every setting I can think of for the air, putting it on fresh air and going from hot to cold.

Any recommendations? This is getting to be a safety issue.

Its a constant problem if you dont have it set to fresh air and set the air to windshield defog, it works great. I find ym windows always want to fog if its not on fresh air. Even if its set to vents and not defog, my windshield still fog up, even if its set to fresh air, but not as much.Sure when it gets cold out, fresh air isnt as warm as if it was set to recurculate, but it still gets hot enough to turn it down after the inside gets warm.

So set your air to fresh, air to blow on the windshield, and power to like 2 and it should be all good, works for me.

Check to see if you are losing antifreeze. Its possible you have a pin hole leak in the heater core under the dash and its letting a small amount of steamy antifreeze into the passenger compartment, which in cold weather will steam up the windows pretty quick. I had this happen not too long ago, I had to wipe down the windshield about every 2 minutes until it was fixed.

too bad you dont' have a/c....turning that on against the window gets rid of that stuff in seconds.

Keep it on fresh all the time, and remember that condensation is created when air outside is colder than air inside. So if you want to reduce that stuff wear a coat and don't use the heat.

But even still, you'll get condensation. One thing I Found out that worked damn good on my friends Escort, is to remove the plastic cowl hwere the wiper arms are attached and reach down and remove all the rotting leaves that are stuck where the incoming vent air comes through. If you remove that built up stuff, it'll let air flow more freely through the car and allow the interior to cool with outside air quicker, causing less or no condensation when the car is parked.

i have the problem with my windows fogging up too and its so damn annoying, i just role the window down and put on my jacket and gloves and that fixes it, also uses less gas the the heater would.

I will agree with Gro Harlem's statement above about the A/C.

You can use the A/C and have the Heater on (it will blow hot, even though AC is selected) and it gets rid of the fog almost instantly.

The other option you already mentioned-- use the fresh air option on the HVAC controls.

Or, just crack your windows slightly and that will help too.

if you have a water leak in your car it will make tons of condensation everywhere..
