Oil leak on my MX-3

Hi all.

I have a '94 Mazda MX-3 1.6 four-cylinder with engine oil seeping
from between the engine- and transmission casings which leads me
to suspect that the crankshaft bearing seal has perished. (It just hit the 150000 mile mark.)

Is it possible to replace the crankshaft bearing seal once the
transmission has been removed or will I have to split the crank-
case to achieve this?

Thanks in advance,

Bjoern

drop the tranny, remove the flywheel, and you'll have no problems getting the rear main seal out.

Ok remove your Transaxle/Transmission assembly (if you have a manul clutch remove the clutch/flywheel assembly, Automatic remove flexplate-to-crankshaft bolts, flexplate and shim plates) Now just cut the seal with a knife and install a rag to the house, then take a screwdriver and pry the seal off. Clean the housing real good and put on a new one. If you have any more questions you can e-mail me if you like. Have a good one.
