properly resetting the ecu

I searched the forums for how to reset the ecu. I've found so far 3 different ways.<p>1 - Disconnect the negative terminal, hold the brake for 15 seconds<p>2 - Disconnect the negative terminal, hold the brake for 30 seconds<p>3 - Disconnect the positive terminal for 15 minutes<p>Which way is the correct way to do it?<p>[ June 24, 2003: Message edited by: maxx ]</p>

Check engine light??<p>96 MX3 4 cyl had bad spark plug and now Check Engine light is on.<p>Do you reset ECM to cancel light??<p>appreciate a reply to fix this.......<p>thanks.

Yes they are all correct. What pushing on the brake does it run all the electricity out of your car faster. Even when you disconnect the battery some energy remains in the system. So pushing on the brake lights up the brake lights, and thus runs this left over energy out faster than waiting for it to dissipate on it's own.

Because whatever is causing the light to be on is still wrong. Fix it, clear the ecu, and the light will be off.
