Swap from SOHC, to DOHC failed..
Ok..
I failed a swap today..
I bought a DOHC engine 1.6l about a month or two about..
Today, it was the time to swap..
But, something was hitchingm me. I went to someone who was ''use'' to do swaps for Mazda Cars.. He told me the SOHC wires could be swap to the DOHC engine..
Guess what.. IT CAN'T BE DONE!
The ECU from the DOHC engine can't be plug into the SOHC wire.. and the Coil pack is not the same.. so.. NO SWAP!

Then, the guy told me that he throw out the wires from the DOHC engine.. URGH!
Sorry, had to vent

Re: Swap from SOHC, to DOHC failed..
If you are attempting to use an OBDII engine, ecu and harness it will not work. You can use the SOHC harness, either keep the SOHC ecu or swap to the Pro LX ecu and just modify the harness connections for the sensors or swap sensors between motors. This will operate the engine, trust me, this is how you do the B6T swap. You will need to use your distributor and maintain the same coil. The Pro LX has provisions to control VICS where as your B6e ecu did not. Since you lack the VICS connections with the B6e harness, you will get a code 41 when using the Pro LX ecu. You could set it up using an rpm activated window switch to turn it on and off (many of the miata guys have had success with this when swapping to the newer '99+ BP motors).

Re: Swap from SOHC, to DOHC failed..
I will need to keep my MAF too then?
Since the MAF of the 96 does not have the same connector of the Maf of 93.. I will need to keep the original MAF.
You are suggesting to swap the Disty to my extern one on the DOHC engine?
And how do I create the device for the VCIS?

Re: Swap from SOHC, to DOHC failed..
You can keep the MAF or go to an FC3S version for some more cfm.
For the window switch, go to MSD's website. You are looking for an rpm activated switch. You will need to tap a couple wires, power, rpm signal, ground, etc. Using "pills" you can switch the VICS on at 3000rpm and have it shut down at 5000rpm if you like. Essentially you are using the same type of switch that many people use on their nitrous system to automatically activate and shut down at predertermined points for safety/power.

Re: Swap from SOHC, to DOHC failed..
I will look tonight if I can plug the harness into the B6E ECU.
There is 3 sockets on the ECU of thr DOHC engine.. compare to 2 on the B6E one..

Re: Swap from SOHC, to DOHC failed..
Just get a distributor from either a protege or ford escort 1.8L DOHC, the dist will fit perfectly on th 1.6 dohc head. find the two wires on the tps that are for closed throttle switch and splice them into the wires for 1.6 sohc tps. the dohc WILL run on the sohc com if you get the right dist.

Re: Swap from SOHC, to DOHC failed..
Okay guys...What is involved if I want to swap a 93 1.6L RS into a 92 1.6L RS? I can get the "engine assembly" for 350.00 from a wreckers. I'm not looking to get stupid on speed, just that I'm pretty sure that the compression on my sohc is gone to hell in a handbasket.
Besides, I'm going to be installing a turbo in a while, and I don't think my sohc is going to like it for too long.
I'd like to go with a B6T or BPT, but can't afford to. Which reminds me, is it the B6T with front wheel drive in the 88-89 323GT?

Re: Swap from SOHC, to DOHC failed..
Read the B6T swap info in my sig, the same info applies but you aren't turbocharging. You can still use the SOHC wiring harness and disty. All you need to do is swap sensors and your old disty to the DOHC, use the Pro LX ecu to run everything and you will be fine. Not difficult at all.
