NOOOOOOOO (@&%ing Idle!!!!!!

Post by cjthor »

Just got my car back from corksport and the friggin idle problem is back. We checked the battery and its fine, the alternator is putting out 14.2 volts and I reset the TPS. Why is it back!! Maybe it just never left!! Now its really bad. Used to do it only once in a while and now its almost every time I start it. We REALLY need to figure this one out. When I get home tonite I am gonna put in my other IAC valve and see if that works.......any other ideas???

Start off by cleaning the IAC you have on there now. Mine didnt APPEAR that dirty (as much as I could see), but even after 8-10 good soakings with carb cleaner it was still draining black. After it started to drain clear solvent, I wiped it and dried it, put it back on, adjusted the idle speed, reset the ECU, and a month later the idle is still rock solid. Not that this is the problem with yours, but I think the majority of people having this problem a simple IAC cleaning would work wonders.

what i did was raise my idle to around 800-950 *750 is the stock idle speed for both MTX and ATX* and then i just turned on my rear defroster and the idle is SOLID.. i turn on my rear defroster every time though.

I will try the IAC thing tonite. I have a spare so I will just swap it. I am pretty sure the idle screw is set correctly and I dont think turning on the rear defroster is a good fix for engine problems. I'm not baggin on you marsh but I dont think that this would solve my problem

Well I screwd with it a lil more. I think now that I got it back from corksport it has another prob. The idle was waaaayyy high and then kicked into the up and down idle. I adjusted the idle down with the idle screw and then loosened the TPS. I kinda played with it til the idle problem got as good as it was gonna get. It is still there but you barely notice it.
[ April 28, 2003: Message edited by: cjthor ]

I think al this talk about the mysterious idol problem has jinxed me, as yesterday it started to happen to my car! However, I've notice it only happens when the car is cold, when I start the car first thing in the morning and I have the clutch depressed. If I let the clutch out, it the engine dies down to around 700 RPM. Any ideas?
I saw a street sign yesterday that said Caution! Children playing! so I slowed down. Then I thought Wait! I'm not afraid of children!

Before all this crap was goin on my idle was at 750. Corksport must have either turned it way up or I have a vac leak causing the car to compensate by raising idle. The up and down thing is still there but its not as bad as it was.

I read somewhere a bad clutch switch may cause idle problems. Does your rpm change when u r stopped and put it into 1st or anyother gear?
also a part called the BAC valve can cause it (this is big bucks).
