Cup holder?

Post by mmonid »

Does anybody have any idea where to get a cup holder for a '93 RS? I have heard of putting the cup holder from a Taurus in. Any ideas if this actually works?

Hey I installed a din size cup holder from a 91 taurus in my 93. Got it at the scrapyard. You can install it under the audio deck, and get the useless platic thing off.

There's only one thing, if you have a 5 spd, the cupholder might be in the way of the shidter (on 3rd gear). ...and cans doesn't fit well in it (it was made for soft cup).
But that's the only way I could get a cupholder in my car.

It is a 5 speed, and I also have a flip down face on my radio. Does the cup holder go into the dash when it is not in use? Also, are there any mods you had to make to the dash to get it to fit, or did it just snap into place? B.T.W. - Is yours 5 speed or auto? Thanks again.

You could also get a short shift (that's what I did).

Oh! and BTW, there's a "coin tray" attach to it, so you can turn your mx-3 into a taxi...lol ;)
[ March 01, 2002: Message edited by: Brainless ]

I will take a look at the cup holder at the wreckers if they have it, and I will decide then. Is the colour the same as the rest of the interior (black)?

You're kidding, right?!!
Don't you realize that a 12 oz. can fits perfectly between the passenger seat and the parking brake? I just assumed it was an elegant forethought on the part of the Mazda engineers. Much like the french-fry-box-holder on the driver-side door.
Seriously, though, I've considered vacuum-forming a new piece of plastic to replace the ashtray and area in front of the gear shift. One more summer project that's been put off for more than a couple summers.

You know I have also found that not a can, but a 16oz cup fits perfictly between the PS seat and e brake up torwards the bottom of the shifter. Also if you take out your ash tray a cup will sit on the level space. Without tipping over!!! It is actually quite interesting. :)
Funny though.. It took me a good 3 or 4 weeks to even find the cup holder in the first place!
