you should start a thread about this describing what you did and show before and after shots to show there really is a difference

Brian is using the number that I calculated when I did the rewire for my projectors. The light output is simple math and was calculated using a volt meter to guage the difference in voltage between the stock wiring and my rewire with relays. I might do a How To one day, but right now I've got a handfull of projects that need finishing. I'm sure someone on here can detail it, but pics will be needed for the less electrically inclined.

i meant pics showing the difference between the lights ouput before and after to see if it makes it any better cause the stock lights are terrible not just in output but in the dispersement of the light also... that is why i'm doing these projectors cause i want a more than 40% output increase (providing you really do get that in real life rather than just theoretically)

Oh, I'm sorry i didn't relise that this topic was for ricers, i thought the purpose of upgrading to projectors was to increase lighting? Atleast thats what i believe everyone on this forum who has even tried to do projectors reasoning has been. If you want to look different go buy civic projectors :). i guess there is nothing to be said about functionality over looks.....

Yes I had discussed with pat the idea of swapping relays and wiring based off what i have helped my VW buddies with, they like us have crappy lighting and they have come to relise by redoing there lighting system (wires relays etc...) they can greatly increase there lighting output, with a very small budget. Pat informed me that he had i cant rember either a 3-4 volt increase when he upgraded his wires/relays, which he figured out to be around 40% increasement in lighting output. which 40% would be a great difference in lighting especially for only spending about 50 dollars.

I'm doing the researching on what needs to be done, and i will be writing a How to for people, i dont know if everyone will be able to do these as you need to know some basics to electronics and being that both Pat and I are skilled in electronics (pat can wire up a house inside and out up and down. And my self I was an electronic technician in the navy) the work and idea is very simple to us.

when I did mi light s (civic) eh i dont know.. the lights are h1 bulb.. its around the same as stock however theres give you a more concentrater light source.. my brights are WAY WAY brighter than stock tho, nomal ones are the same but just concentrated making it look brighter i guess.

Most of those cheap projector lights use a fog type housing and blub. H1 is a fog light bulb, meaning that the light will be very concentrated. Thus you loose all the light for the edge of the road to see turns, signs, things entering the road (cat, dog, deer, person, car). It might be better than stock b/c the stock are just so crappy, but definately not the real answer. 40% increase will still be all over the place. Giving the light more power will only yield more light where the stock lights are aiming the light (all over the place in my experience). However, for 50 bucks I'd say it is just as good as Civic projectors if not better. One day I'll get around to taking pics of my projectors with new wiring vs the stock wiring and stock lights. I cannot show the 40% increase on the stock lights since my projectors use different bulb sockets and thus will not plug in. I'm not willing to wire in some bulb socket just to take a pic.

please no flaming and off topis stuff I need to keep this tight and to the point so we doing get 18 pages of nonsense and loose people. Just got an email back from andy:

Tim, So sorry the project has been moving slowly.
Anyway, decided to go with Atoy as there is more
assurance with him, in terms of quality as oppposed to
my friends production. He can also help with the
shipping. We can do the projectors with and without
lights. For those getting just the housings we'll
extend the cylinder/lip towards the rear to give
allowance for adjustment when mounting your own
lights.

I'll try to update you asap. I think its best that I
ship the prototype to you before producing the rest of
the orders. That way we can work on any quirks.

thanks,
Andy

he was considering another shop because of how busy Atoy always is but he felt Atoy was the best option cause they do amazing work. I'm sure I won't see the lights for at least a month or two but it will be well worth the wait to have better light than before and a different look than before

and increasing the power of stock light won't do anything for the poor spread of the stock light fog lights have a wider spread than our stock lighting...

since the option of housings without lights is open those who don't like the projectors Atoy will offer can put different ones in

From the sounds of things though, you really ARE going to want to also upgrade the wiring, and relays to get maximum benefit out of the new lights.

For those of us who are electrically competitent, can you give a brief description of what your upgrades were?

if the deal actually goes through i will get a set, assuming it will happen before the summer. I just dont know why these things take sooo long and normally end up with a big disapointment, im hoping this one will be different, add me up to the list.

the reason this is taking so long is because they don't have an mx-3 there to begin with, they are a very very busy shop and had tons on the list before I sent them my lights to start the work... plus it took quit a while for my lights to reach them. I talk to andy every couple of weeks to stay on things but I don't mind the wait cause it's giving me time to save up for the finished product.
