I applaud the effort of putting a straight neck into a MX-3, But there are so many easier ways to get around the Brake master cylinder issue!

1. $10.00 worth of fittings and some brake fluid safe hose. For those that think it is dangerous figure 99% of all vans on the road have a remote brake fluid reservoir (and most race cars).

2. I saw a really elegant way around it on the net. The guy took a generic 90 degree aluminum air intake elbow, flanged it on both ends and bolted it directly to the intake manifold on one side (where the throttle body usually goes) and then bolted the throttle body to the other side.

no offence but that looks pretty Hack.... im not saying its bad or anything, but i wouldnt do it to my car. I like the mx6 booster much better cus most people wouldnt even know its not oem and it looks proper. id rather do more work for a cleaner result ! :welder:

I agree, but a nice remote reservoir could be sick as hell too. I'm going to pick up a booster from an RS MX-3 nad compare to the MX6 booster. I think they're about the same depth but the internals of the RS match the GS a little closer. I'm hoping it will make it easier to mate the GS master.

mmmmm i wish that wasnt in my worklog.

but yeah i have seen remote reservoirs before. sometimes they are routed into the cabin of the car.

i have my cai built now. still need to drill a hole for the rear vent to plug into.

pics to follow.

probinator ecu
clutch slave cylinder - ordered from mazda.
rest of my exhaust. obv. headers are on with y pipe. i have my resonator and my flowmaster 50 series muffler
k8 thottle body needs to be bored out.

AND IM DONE!!!!!!!!!

next step - little bit of rust and some rear quarter damage under the gas door.

im just gonna cut out the rust underneath and fibre glass the hell out of it. paint it and cover it with my oem sides. - this way i dont actually have to make it look mint!!

tint my windows and ya. pretty sick mx3 i would say.

It looks really good man. I'm embarking on the same journey in a few weeks. How long all together would you say it took you to do everything? How many hours in the shop?

it took us about 3 hours and 45 minutes to pull the k8

then the car sorta sat for awhile cause i didnt have a ze but thats ok cause it was to be winter stored anyways.

i had ordered all my timing stuff fuel filter, new gaskets waterpump etc etc... and when i finally brought a ze home it took about 3 hours to swap everything over.

the coolant neck from the k8 (no extra sensor) then the waterpump, then the timing idler pullies and tensioner. the belt went on next and we timed it. i had to put the k8 disty in the ze, i replaced the cap and rotor. also the thermostat.

the brake booster setup took quite awhile as well.

it took about 30 mins to wrap either header. 3 minutes to put them on the either head.

haha i want to go on but i just cant. i cant think of everything and how long it took.

it took me all winter so far hahah just pluggin away at it slow you know.

if you have EVERYTHING you need it wont take that long.

it takes about 10 days ATLEAST for polyurethane to dry if you do that.

I'm planning to do the entire swap in 4 days. I already have all my parts (almost) and I will have the brake booster modded and installed before I do anything.

Wish me luck.

ya man forsure if i was in alberta i would help you.

you can do this in 4 days man. no problem.

just make sure you have cash man thats all i can say. your gonna run into stuff. i did not account for having to buy a new rear motor mount, but i did so that was about 80 bucks spent. you will run into problems. i was going to use my slave cylinder again too but it wont depress now for some reason, even with the bleeder open so i had to replace that as well.

allow time to have your flywheel machined too.

i highly recommend polyurethane filling your motor mounts. and that needs time to dry.

i had to re-time my engine 3 times and thats time taken you know. so just take your time doing this. remember if you have new headers they go to the rear about 8" farther then stock.

you will need to have a intake sorta set up too.

Thanks for the advice. I think I have thought of everything, but I'm sure you're right. I will run into stuff.
