I cleaned mine the 3 minute way... not the best way, but it costed me 3 dollars... I did a shoddy job and was in a hurry, but I'm going to head back out there and give it a deeper clean.

picture time :D

What did I use? DOT3 Brake fluid. The cheapest I can find. wipe on, wipe off. Unfortunately, I didn't get the corners too well (was scared of the fluid EATING my paint) and I plan to polish them when I re-clean them.

but brake fluid worked pretty well for me, it's a very cheap alternative, I suppose :D

Remember, polishing only gets you so far. I just cleaned my headlights this evening, and I inspected them closely. there's a thin layer where the plastic is physically degrading into a crusty mess... where I failed to properly clean it.

I'm going to fetch me some polish for my headlights and polish them off, but I'd very much recommend removing a actual physical portion of the headlight beforehand... and brake fluid does a wonderful job at EATING stuff :D leaves a horrible yellow mess on your wiping cloth, though...

that's why removing your headlights to be buffed is so recommended, it physically removes that small layer of old grime.

Sure, your headlights will still turn grimy again, but it shouldn't happen for a few years.

I hear the reason for fogging is because of a bad batch of plastic that was brewed around the early-mid 90's... I'm sure some aftermarket plastic lenses would look wonderful and not grime over...

I could be wrong, but this is the conclusion I've come to myself. Of course... we all know all my opinions are professional, right? right??
