You basically answered your own question. The 4-wire o2 sensors are heated, which help them get to operating temperature faster. The extra 2 wires don't interface with the ECU at all, they're not suppose to, it's power and ground wires for the heating element...
Yeah I know that

I was just saying that either or can be used with the BPVR

Just as a further note any car that's OBD2 will have that indicated on the ID sticker either under the hood or on the drivers door frame, I can't remember which.
Hey man way to stick with it. Don't give up no matter what, you'll regret it. Next time giving up will get easier and easier and easier. You du man hommes. :D

So been super busy with year end and month end at work, plus christmas and family matters..

BUT.... i was cleaning the car out a few nights ago, and taking pics of it.... and i noticed something..

the doorjam vin sticker on the car says it was made 11/94...

so does this infact deem my precidia a true 1994 that was just sold as a 95????

IF so.. doesnt that change a lot of wiring headaches that are attatched to the dash harness/making the dash harness work with a sohc harness???

can anyone shine some light on this further?

I at this point have a vaf, ecu, egt harness and can access a sohc rs harness aswell as a protege harness, and i have a dizzy ready to go.

Just waiting for time to actually tear into it and git'er done.

Also.. when i originally plugged in my escort gt ecu into the precidia's harness.. the car turned over and fired up first try.. it just didnt continue running for more than a second or two.

Would that be due to the fact that the egt ecu sees a VAF.. and it was actually seeing a MAF instead????????

If so.. isnt there anything i can do to just change the MAF to a VAF, and make it work? or is it more indepth than that (egt ecu sees a dizzy with external coil..... whereas it's seeing teh gay all in one distributor?

but... wouldnt it not start at all in that case?

I mean.. for the car to turn over FINE.. means a) the egt ecu sees the ignition circuit on the mx3 godknows what harness, b)the egt ecu sees the fuel pump, and makes it run, or the car wouldnt start either....

Help me out.. LOL i know i've asked before, but i've gotten sidetracked.. but now with the holidays over, im ready to get back at it with a fresh brain.

And no worries, im not giving up. the car's too spotless and clean to give up on. plus the gf LLLLLLLLLLLLOVES it.

and everyone that's seen it is blown away by it's condition and price payed.

I would say if you have the right parts, just use them.
Took the bp+t out of the mx and swapped it into a 95 escort wagon. ;)

Hey... what if i were to just say f*ck it and go ms pnp???

It says that the make pnp MS for bp powered mx3's..

Does anyone have any experience with the MS system in a bp mx3??

I assume i still need to get the right engine harness, and then just plug in the ms bp mx3 ecu correct?
would i need to change distributors?

what about the speedo? ect?

You will still need the right engine harness. You will need the correct 4 wire disty with external coil. I think the pnp also takes care of the speedo, but I dont have any actual experience with it.

Hrmm.. damn.. so.. potentially MS will fix the speedo issue which would be very nice..

and the 4 wire disty and external coil, i own..

Would i still need to splice anything into the mx3 dash harness, outside of the MS system?

Anyone in Ontario want an mx3 to make the escort/protege harness work with? I'll pay ya. haha.
getting so frustrated everytime i have to fill up the car that it's not even funny.

If anyone wants to take on a project, let me know..

I can supply you anything you need, plus cash, just name your price.
:(

Just figured MS might fix a lot of my issues, but for the price of it, i'd rather just pay someone knowledgeable to make the car work with a BP ecu instead (no plans for boost or anything on the mx3.. just a DD, so no need for standalone)

From what Ive read, all youll have to do to run the EGT harness is swap some pins around ecu side. You want them to match the mazda ecu.

just to double check.. if im running the egt ecu, do i still need to swap pins around ecu side? if im using an egt harness and egt ecu, what am i swapping over?

also.. i think i mentioned, but cant remember at this point..

the car runs an F series transmission with if im NOT mistaken, the electrical speedo sensor, vs the g series mechanical.

how do i keep my speedo working? and dash harness... i still cant figure out what repins/resplices where.. when it comes to wiring schematics that are more than simple, im pretty useless i have to admit.

Thanks for the patience and help so far!

You're wrong on the trans. All G are electronic speedometer.

If you're running the EGT harness and EGT ECM, then clearly its all how its supposed to be...

So you're saying there is no difference between VSS stuff between G series and F series in their year ranges..

and i didnt say i was running anything new in the mx3 yet.. i said i HAVE the egt harness and egt ecu/vaf/ect ect ect....

my WORRY was and still remains... the dash harness that is IN the mx3, working with the EGT engine harness..
and the speedo on the mx3 dash working, if and when i figure out how to use the EGT engine harness.

I don't know what VSS stands for. Vehicle Speed Sensor?

and yes, there is. All G's are digital, and the SOHC F series trans is cable, being F5MR, and F25MR is digital, being the MX-3 RS DOHC trans.

MX-3 Dash harness works with EGT harness and ECM.

If you need to switch between cluster types, its easy enough, all the wiring should be there, just swap clusters and run the mechanical cable...
