Before I embark on my wonderful KLDE journey i have a few ?'s I am using the motor and trans from a 96 mx6 in my 93 mx3. I would assume there will be issues with obd1 to obd2 Also I dont think the speedo is gear driven, its electric. Hows that gonna work? I'm fairly sure that these are my main problems for the swap. Also I am going from automatic k8 to manual KL. I have everything for my swap except pedals and axles. I also grabbed the booster and stuff so I can rock the slim booster, woot! If some of you could just point me to a few good obd1/2 write ups and something pertaining to the speedo thing that would rock. I promise I will post pics of all the loveliness very soon.

The motor wont be a issue, the only thing you really have to do is tap the coolant neck for the extra sensor in your 93 or you can swap if over from your K8 motor once you have it out. Make sure you got the correct ecu/vaf combo when you are ready to start the car. A KL01 ecu and KL02 VAF should suffice

As for the speedo, its all electric, even on the auto IIRC as the connector on the gauge cluster is not gear driven.

its funny cause I told the shop that was pulling the stuff I needed the engine harness; but when I showed up they had the "full harness", all 3!!! Fuse blocks, the whole dash, and the freakin steering column! I basically have every wire from the back seat up minus the window harness, lol! Its in a huge hefty bag!

96. Im gonna offer up some stuff I kept from my purchase once I get signed up over at mx6.com and probe talk.

Also more progress is made thanks to one nice day a week weather-wise. Core support is out!!! Used one I bought is cut to fit! Some welding and fab are to follow soon. I kinda mocked stuff up a bit and its gonna work! This will happen! im psyched!

I have a LOT of metal work to do being that the lower part of my fenders were rotted bigtime! There is a freakin drain for the wiper cowl that dumps right into the inner fender and then water and leaves just pile up and rot behind your front mudgaurds. WTF Mazda. Despite opening a new can of worms everytime I work on the thing I am still very optimistic that this dream will become a reality. My goals at hte moment are as follows:

Spring: fix all body damage and rust spots
collect a few remaining pieces for the body(ie. euro sideskirts, lip, aftermarket tails, etc)
prep for paint and seal for the time being

Summer: interior disassembly, clean, system install, replace combo switch and steering wheel, reassemble
tear down the DE and polish, paint, regasket, maintenance parts
rip out the K8 and all the auto trans stuff
clean up, paint, tidy engine compartment
install DE and fire it up!
trouble shoot, tune, drive!

Fall: start buying suspension stuff including full bushing kit, coilovers, etc
get sum projectors and maybe a MS front bumper
save, save, save!!!

winter: buy tires and a set of slicks
save, save, save!

next spring: paint!

next summer: suspension install
hit the track like a madman!

but then again nothing goes according to plan, lol!

heres some long awaited pics. The process I used to get the motor and trans outta the back of my ford was genius. Park on hill, remove trans(the hardest part), remove tailgate, attach plate, jack up bumper to proper height, slide onto stand, secure, Hillarious!

Heres a few pics of the progress on the car:

core support is out, engine is getting prepped to be removed along with all the auto trans stuff, a/c gone(damaged in crash), cruise control gone.

When I signed up in 04' I had recently purchased my first mx3. It was an awesome project, heres what it looked like shortly before I sold it to some kid who totaled it 2 days later. It started out as a beat up sohc rs:

and finished BP swapped daily driver/auto crosser:

This is my first attempt at a k-series v6 , but I have built 2 escorts, 2 festivas, a protege dx, and a protege lx in addition to the first mx3.

Im sure this is what you and I have been waiting for: Progress! I did some r+r on a few parts, tore up some stuff, and....drum roll please:
WELDED IN MY CORE SUPPORT!!! Yay!!! It was horrific and theres still a bit of finishing work to be done cause I think I burned more holes than I welded, lol. My welder is flux core and only has 2 heat settings (high and higher apparently  ) Luckily this part is not really load bearing it just is responsible for lining everything in the front end up. Its solid, its in, and as you will see in the photos, everything bolted up straight as can be! Also test fitted my sideskirts from Mooneggs! More to come but heres some pics:
