Nice man! I never had doubt in your mechanical expertise ;D But your choice of paint on the other hand... lol j/k! What kind of high flow cats do you have? I have a feeling Magnaflow makes some of the crappiest ones in terms of emissions control, my K8 couldn't pass on the NOx levels either even though it had an EGR. Also, are the levels in OR as strict as Cali? Ontario gets its emission standards from Cali, it's pretty strict here.

Yeah for sure, big ups to Daninski for his advice and suggesting that I go this route, he's been doing it this way for years.

Heh, I don't let anyone work on my car. I didn't even let them drive it in, I literally said "I don't want your guys stalling it or burning the crap out of the clutch." Seriously with this pulley + flywheel it takes some getting used to.

Umm did someone just give me a thumbs up??? Ha, I almost feel appreciated. Thanks Igor. :D

I honestly feel that with a properly tuned ZE could pass our emissions test but it would probably involve running an AFPR set back to about 20 PSI. I plan to install one and have the guy at the test center check the difference out for me. He's a cool Dude even if he does own a Cavalier. :?

Can you post what the pass numbers are so we can compare. I have a feeling Ontario is a little stricter than Oregon but I could be wrong.

yeah I bet you guys are right... these are the results for the DD:

Previous passing test results:
Idle emissions: HC 164, CO 0.4187
CO+CO2 14

Most recent passing test results:
Idle emissions: HC 130 (max allowed: 220), CO 0.8203 (max allowed: 1)
CO+CO2 14.2 (max allowed: 6)

Wait, idle emissions? No NOx readings? Don't tell me they just 2-speed idle test over there?! Wow you have it so easy! Any car can pass like that hahah, that's not allowed here. They only 2-speed idle test AWD cars and cars that are too low to get on the dyno, but let's face it, the car pretty much has to be dumped beyond practical driving in order to not be able to make it on the ground dyno like the one you see mine on in the pic.

My idle emissions:
HC ppm: 57 (max allowed: 200)
CO%: 0.02 (max allowed: 1.00)

little heads up igor and of next year all cars will be 2 speed idle. and obd 2 cars will be tested through the obd2 port and if you engine light is on its an immediat fail. so who cares about Nox lol

Oh yeah I've known about this for some time. That's why this is the last etest that I really have to stress about cause the next time I have to do it in 2 years it will be so easy to pass that I could probably do it with straight pipes.

Whoa, wait, what?! This is news to me! Mind you, come Jan, I'll probably have Quebec plates on and they don't do e-test here...

My Mx-3 passed both e-tests with no EGR and just a Magnaflow High-flow cat as a K8. Maybe they used more platinum in those cats back when I got mine in, but I've heard that with Magnaflows they only last a year. The first test was an actual rolling test, but the second time I was lowered and wouldn't safely get on the rollers and was tested as a 2-speed idle. I've got my results posted on here somewhere even with my failed K8 e-test.

OCC meet would be neat, I've always wanted to go. Only 6 hours from Montreal so it's not a bad drive at all, just my passport expires next year so would ahve to get it renewed.

Dude remember when you, me, John, Duncan, and Krish met up in the spring? John was telling us about all that etest stuff. And yeah my Magnaflow cat is god knows how old, it's been on the car since I bought it which was 2.5 years ago.

Mooneggs got your attention huh? :)
So I've got a few new things to show. I upgraded to NGK Iridium spark plugs. Here they are:

Image

Old vs. new plugs:

Image

You can see how much thinner the tip is and even the ground electrode tapers in. This reduces quenching and gives a much finer spark.

Then it was time for an oil change. Nothing special:

I sourced out an OEM carbon fiber hood locally for dirt cheap. Everything is mint except for it has a bent corner but it's not an issue for me, considering the price I got it for and the weight reduction. Speaking of which, I was surprised it didn't weigh as little as I thought it would. I mean, it's still considerably lighter than stock, but if you're buying a CF hood brand new it's almost not even worth the gains. You might as well just go on a diet. Funny story (not really) - I was on a trip a few weeks ago to another city and was out in the countryside and decided to pick up some speed on a stretch. Didn't last long cause when I got to 160km/h I almost sh*t my pants cause the hood started wobbling like crazy! I was ready for it rip off and go into my windshield. Luckily it held and I slowed down, but hood pins are definitely on the to-do list. People aren't kidding - you really DO need hood pins with a CF hood. The thing I noticed is how sleeper it is from far. On a black car you can't even tell that it's carbon until you get up close (I had the CF hood for a while now, even in the last couple of updates but you never noticed, did you? ;)). Love it!
Anyways, we got some nice late fall weather so I decided to go out and take some photos before class today, considering I'll be putting the MX-3 away in a few weeks for winter. It was dirty and I didn't bother washing it. Enjoy.

I like the valve stem caps! I've been considering adding a drift charm for some time now... but it just doesn't seem right because the MX-3 is FWD :freak: :?

Let is know how the iridiums go, I've only heard bad things, but I think we'd all appreciate an opinion from a respectable guy, instead of a internet(PT) rumor...
