Nice, Well my impression was that the Pro LX trans and the Escort GT trans were the same but the 3rd and 4th may still be different. the Kia I am not sure of but I know the internals are supposed to be the same as the 99-02 MS protege's minus the LSD. they do take a larger spline axle trans side than the others.

How you tell about the MX6 626 5th gear is there are notches in the end of the gear. I know there is a pic somewhere, but that is the only way to tell the difference. I do like the thought of splitting 3rd and 4th a bit more. but I really cant wait to get the 5th gear changed. You picked a great diff, I am just going to use a newer MS lsd in my trans. I do know that I am going to have to go get some more manuals and look up the gear ratios.

With all the info I have read, and the comparisons I have done at home this is what I have come up with..

The Protege LX and Escort GT both use 26 spline axles... They have the same Skinny ring gear and all the guts should be interchangeable with a B6T transmission... I don't have any ratios for the Protege LX or Escort GT, but what I read is that they use a 4.10 final drive and 5th gear is the same ratio...

B6T ratio's are as follows

1st 3.31
2nd 1.83
3rd 1.23
4th 0.97
5th 0.795
Final Drive 3.85

The Kia transmission uses a thicker ring gear and 28 spline axles.. It uses a 4.10 final drive.. I haven't compared one to a K series transmission but I do believe the gear ratio, and everything should interchange. The one Kia transmission I had apart to rebuild for a friend of mine looked very much the same as the K series transmissions...

Probes/Mx3/Later model proteges/MSP proteges all use a 28 spline axle.. The later model Proteges have a 4:10 final drive.. The MSP proteges have a LSD that can be interchanged in any of the KL transmissions.. As we know there are 2 versions of the MSP protege LSD, 1st gen is very problematic.. The 2nd gen is better but still not bullet proof..

Protege/Mx3 V6 transmission ratios are... From what I have read Mx6's came with 4.10 final drive...
1st 3.31
2nd 1.83
3rd 1.31
4th 1.03
5th 0.795
Final drive 4.38

97+ 2.0L SOHC Ford escorts (the valve cover of the motor would say Split port induction, or split port induction 2000 on it)... The ford Escort diff uses a 26 spline axle.. Be careful of that.. You may have to switch over the ring gear on to your diff, or change out your axles...They use the same thicker ring gear as the KL... As I have show all the guts will interchange with all the KL transmission stuff... 5th gear will interchange threw out all the g series stuff... So this can be an alternative to the harder to find 626 5th gear...

The ratios..
The escort transmission gear ratios are..
1st 3.31
2nd 1.83
3rd 1.23
4th 1.09
5th 0.717
Final drive 3.85

All 323's and protege's from your BF right up to your later model MSP proteges have 26 spline outter CV joints.. The difference is in compressed length.. BF's and BG's are about 1" shorter... The EC's and BH's are about the same length... Also watch out for your inner shaft spline counts...

Protege LX and escort GT counter shaft wont interchange with the KL transmission stuff... The pinion gear on the counter shaft is to short... Also the diffs wont interchange... You can interchange the ring gears and I believe Dan with the KL festive interchanged the side gears in the diff... The gear sets on the shafts all can be interchanged though...

Break in is complete.. The diff has gotten a little quieter.. I'll give it a week or so to see how much more it loosens up, but I think I'll need to pull it and re set up the clutch packs in the long run... The motor feels real healthy...

I have decided since everything I Am feeling all the noise and clicking is normal the car is going to autocross tomorrow... I should have some fun video's tomorrow night to post... :)

YAAA! to a very successful Day at autocross... The Diff is getting quieter as I keep driving it... The car drives like a whole new animal with the diff installed.. Its amazing how earlier I can put power down coming out of the corners and how much more over all grip the car has... With all the changes I have made, the car was totally unpredictable.. The rear end was all over the place my first 2 run... I ended up dropping rear tire pressure almost 10psi.. I also softened the shocks up about 10 adjustments...

Lots of little things to do still on the car, but this was a great day and an awsome start... The only problem I having with the motor is an odd idle pattern... Anytime I touch the throttle or come to a stop the car idles at about 1200ish or so for 3 - 4 seconds and then it idles back down to a normal sounding idle... I'll have to get the OBD2 plug wired in tomorrow and put my scan tool on the car to see whats going on...

I took some videos... My first run of the day was exciting.. I took a guy for a ride along who was interested in getting into the sport.. I think he got a little more then he expected... Even with a while harry ride he was still really excited about getting involved at the next event...
http://youtu.be/5s4gcBg0Ka0

It took me 6 runs to get a feel for the car and finally start cleaning up my runs... I was still very sloppy all over.. Its going to take some time to get used to the again..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Px63CKLGOA4

I took Robs uncle for a ride later on in the afternoon.. I'll let the video show just how much fun he had...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=541BwmmYag0

For my last run of the afternoon I gave it up to allow Don to drive my car.. He is the owner of PDM racing and has had experience with KAAZ diffs in more rwd applications.. He also has many years of driving at the nation tours behind his belt... You'll see at the end of the video he has many good things to say about my car and the job I have done setting it up thus far... He also has some good positive feed back on the KAAZ diff I installed.. His 1 and only run in my car net him a time of 51.3 and change... My fasted run of the day was a 51.4 and change.. Just goes to show my car has a lot more in it then I am capable of... With more seat time and getting used to the car and how much faster things are moving I think I'll get better though..

Today I tinkered some more with the car.. It was nice being not having any kind of dead line to get things done by... I just took my time and relaxed... I managed to get my rear trim pannels back in, my rear seats installed.. I rewired my turn signals properly this time (I had them back wards.. ).. I found a blown fuse that was causing my clock to reset every time I turned the key off... I also figured out why my rear defrost didn't work yesterday morning.. I took the door pannels off and cleaned up the wiring inside the door.. Also took the opportunity to install a couple of Concept 5.25 rounds while I had the pannel off.. Since I had to space the speakers away from the door a bit my window handle hits the speekers.. I flattened the grill out a bit but over all I am just going to leave it as is... I don't feel like getting into some big stereo install, I am only doing this so I can listen to traffic reports and stuff while driving to work..

Hopefully tomorrow I'll also get a hold of an OBD2 plug that I can wire in.. This way I can check out data and have a look at the odd idle pattern I have....

My one and only picture tonight... This was why my rear defrost wasn't working... The connector is badly melted/burnt, so is the out put terminal on the relay.. This is actually pretty common to see on high current circuits.. People turn things on and forget to turn them off once they don't need it anymore.. The circuit can't handle the continuous load and burns up... It can also happen if your rear defrost strips on the glass start open circuiting. Thankfully this relay is is very common. It interchanges with many other relays on the car.. So does the harness end, you just need to make sure the wire gauge on the load side is large enough...

Well I continue to tinker with the car... I have 3 problems that needed to be solved..

1) In the morning during warm up the heater was staying cold even thought the temps were hot.. The temps also got up to 3/4 before the thermostat opened up and then they would come down and be fine..

2) Tach doesn't work... I had fried my prevous gauge cluster trying to make a tach adapter.. I have since found the proper tach signal wire...

3) Odd idle issue when coming to a stop or touching the throttle.... The car idles up around 1500 - 1800 when ever I touch the throttle or come to a stock... I'll do this for about 3 - 4 seconds and then it idles down to a normal 700 - 800rpm...

Speeking of RPM... Today was the first day I had the car on the hwy... At 100km/h I was doing 2500rpm.. At 1200km/h I was doing 2800 rpm... The escort final drive and 5th gear are making a huge difference...
I also took the car out to the drag strip tonight.. You can check the up date about it here
http://www.mx-3.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.ph ... 13#p614813

Problem 1) I figured out that the small coolant nipple by the rad cap on the motor was the cause... I had it "T" into the small coolant line from the top of the rad and then run over to the over flow tank.. While during cold start up this was allowing air to be drawn from the coolant over flow tank into the motor... I have since had to cap off the fitting and run a new line from the rad to the over flow tank... Problem Solved!!!!!

Problem 2).. I installed a new gauge cluster and used the PCM engine speed signal to drive the Tach.. Worked great... Pin 48 Orange/Black wire is your engine speed signal.. All wiring diagrams list this wire as a communication line to the gauge cluster and ABS computers... It took finally finding a proper pin out diagram to figure it out...

Problem 3) On going, will be looking into it...

Thanks bud... Besides the odd idle pattern you'd never know this wasn't a stock swap with how it drives so far...

1) That must be one hell of a gear ratio in your final drive and 5th gear, and 2) Your KLG4 swap is making much more power than your letting us on to believe...

Agreed!

I have been reading a lot on PT and MX6 and the guys swapping from OBDI to OBDII are making what my ZE is at the wheels using the KL36 ECU on DE'S.... I dont get it, but I am seriously thinking about converting to OBDII... especially with the conversion harness being made right now.
