Honestly, I'd cut weight out in other areas before hitting the hatch too, I really asked this out of curiosity only, and the price reinforced that stance

I would assume it looks similar to the one I have on my CF hatch or maybe it's more OEM with the black painted on already like the uk-mx3.com ones...
Heh, I JUST found this thread. Good memory Mooneegs. I was going to get it through Corksport since I didn't have an MS account. I found the info, CorkSport's price was $795, back in 2008

Really? So all the racing engineers in disciplines like Formula 1 and Indy are just following a myth? And how about losing weight AND getting the CF parts? Wouldn't that give an advantage, over losing weight alone?

Apart from that, I'm on the fence on the lexan/CF hatch. True, the weight saving is impressive, but, unless I can lighten the front end of the car accordingly, I wouldn't want to lighten the rear of a car that's already nose heavy.

The Formula 1 guys use Carbon Fiber for the whole car. Hes saying just the hood is kind of pointless, do the hood, fenders, pillars, quarter panels, roof, and even the floor pan hell. you would loose tons of weight

The hood is a huge difference on the Mx-3, you go from carrying it oddly with both hands to just picking up the CF hood and walking around with it in 1 hand.

Well Formula 1 to an MX-3 is like apples to oranges. At 2400 lbs our cars don't have "tons" of weight to lose. A few hundred maybe :)

fenders are almost pointless IMO as they practically weigh nothing as they are, the Hood though gets reduced my more than half, If I remember correctly I think the CF hood was like 17lbs compared to the OE hood at like 48lbs or something like that.

The things I would try and make out of composite for maximum weight savings would be the hood, doors, and hatch with lexan. That should just be enough to where you would not notice the extra weight of your full roll cage.
