I don't see what you would spend the time, money, complexity and hacking up an Mx-3 to put in that motor. First, I doubt you'll complete it or even barely get that project started. Secondly, it's a truck motor and all that low end torque isn't effective in a car, especially such a light one. Thirdly, it's not even a particularly worthwhile motor to do all of this work, depending on which version you get, cause there's quite a bit of varience over the years

Horsepower:
145hp @ 4800 RPM (1991 - 1995)
147hp @ 5000 RPM (1996 - 1997)
145hp @ 5000 RPM (1999)
150hp @ 4750 RPM (2000 - 2001)
146hp @ 5050 RPM (2002)
154hp @ 5200 RPM (2003 - 2004)
148hp @ 4900 RPM (2005-2007)

Torque:
165 @ 3600 RPM (1991 - 1995)
162 @ 3250 RPM (1996 - 1997)
178 @ 3750 RPM (1999)
190 @ 3650 RPM (2000 - 2001)
180 @ 3500 RPM (2002)
180 @ 3900 RPM (2003 - 2004)
180 @ 3950 RPM (2005 - 2007)

Of course the newer motors with more power are going to be more expensive, and the older ones don't even match a KLDE for it's power output. A best, you're getting 154hp or 190ft/lbs of torque, vs a KLZE that makes 198hp and 165hp torque, and bolts right in.

if you would like to be different, ther are plenty of good 4 cylinder engine you can find. I would suggest, a 4 cylinder that revs to 8000rpm. Its more fun in a small car to me to have a long rpm range.

hondas b16, b18 series.....

toyota 4age
- i had one of these. has only 113bhp. But with slight mods` you can easily attain 130 and rev to 7600rpm anytime. This is an amazingly robust engine. Cast iron bottom and aluminum head. It has the right power and torque curves. Also, is truboable right away.
best block for super high hp is the 1988 model 2nd generation 4AGE 16v big port. If you want all naturally aspirated power, 1989 4AGE 16v small port. Has increased compression and oil cooled pistons. Then, there are 20 valve 4 cylinder 4AGE`s. they have 156 - 167 hp at 8000rpm. Yes, it is a 1.6L 20 valve. Amazing engine. Soooo much potential. All these engines are as much as a KLZE.

I know i broke the mazda code but the toyota 1.6L 4AGE series engines are legendary. Most people know this.

also, 188hp toyota 2ZZ-GE, if you can find one.

8200rpm redline.

found in celica GTS or toyota matrix.

also, lotus elise.

Then, theres the nissan QR engines. 2.5L I4 with 7000rpm redlines.

NOTE: you are seriously crazy for not going bp swap in 4 cyl model. Be ready for complete re-wiring, welding, and so on

I reccomend 20valve 4AGE cause it has the most incredible sound of any 4 cylinder and incredible long lasting reliability.

Don't get me wrong, there are some amazing motors out there, stuff that pics the KLZE and BPT to shame in performance and potential, but typically when people post on here about these odd engine swap ideas is because they're trying to do a motor upgrade on a budget where it's cheaper than a BP/T or KL swap. Our swaps are so easy and require so little that it's actually hard to beat. Even if you can do all your own work, fabrication and wiring, with all the parts requires, it'll cost more. If you get all the parts for free (minus custom axles) and you have to pay for one for the labor, it'll again cost you more. You can't win if you're trying to play the price game.

Yes and no, that's a different motor, designed for a car. Available at it's earliest in 2005 and makes 221hp. It's the same as in the Mazda6 and the Ford Escape/Mazda Tribute. Oh hey, there's a whole thread on that motor already:
viewtopic.php?f=15&t=67228&hilit=mazda6
and another about the Escape v6:

Do what you wish, but realistically, if you're looking at doing a non-conventional swap, and you have to ask about it, your not capable, able or ready to.

I would absolutely LOVE to see a duratec running in this chassis as a bolt in. xD

Although it would be pretty beast. On the other hand, WHY IN GODS NAME WOULD YOU WANT A VULCAN 3.0L?

While you're at it you should contemplate the possibility of popping in a Vega motor?

:welder:

Might wanna get to work. That car of yours isn't gonna slow ITSELF down.

Made me think of a new line that I might use over on the cougar forum:

Who needs brakes when you have a vulcan?
