Seriouse problem with air intake and pre detonation

u want to know what funny, There was a leak at the EGR, and i plugged it with gum for like a minute and the car purred. I was pretty pissed that I missed that all this time. THen, i took off the EGR

so ya, i'm ok with everyone laughing and such, but when i wrote the title, I was just pissed off to hell at not being able to find the problem right away when i need to get to work.
