If it isn't adjust the screw on the top of the TB untill it is. Once you take it out of Diag mode it'll return to around 700rpm.

say what now? lol

That was what you should do once you get the new disty in and started. Listen you need to check for fuel as well. Can you hear the fuel pump coming on. If it isn't you could have a bad crank sensor. If it's bad, no spark and no fuel. Have someone crank the engine over, the fuel pump in under the rear seat. Just remover the metal plate or you can crawl uner the car and listen.

I know you believe that you understand what you think I said but I'm sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

What he said made no sense to me. I'm not a mechanic. So if someone could please put the stuff about resetting the timing in "dumb terms" it would help. I will check to see if the fuel pump is turning on when I go out to put the new distributor in.

wow this is a really scattered thread.

First of all... Mistubishi electronic components are everywhere. All the B and K series engines use Mitsubishi Distributors. That is your stock distributor.

Second, the HEI mod is designed to replace the internal coil and ignitor of your stock distributor, because they suck. I'm sure you know this, but you should also know that although it's been done, there's no definitive write up on how to do it to a 4cyl car.

Third, and most importantly...advice from guys with fewer than 100 posts should be taken with a large grain of salt. Your issue has nothing to do with your ECU. No spark is the same process regardless of the car you're working on. Open the online manual and follow the troubleshooting guide. It works.

Glad to hear that it's not my ECU. I understand everything about the HEI mod and luckily I have found a good diagram of how to do it in the 4cyl. I'm wondering if anybody has any idea what the guy talking about the "Jump TEN adn Grd" stuff is talking about? I'm going to replace the Distributor today but if that doesn't work then I have no idea what to do next. Any idea where I can get a free online manual. I have no credit card lol.

Don't be confused with the Mitsushitsi symbols on the distributors. They made all of our distributors, its normal. A few other parts too. Cars are rarely made with parts entirely from one company.

On the firewall next tot he brake reservoir there is a box that says "Diagnostic" on the top. Inside there is a diagram of the pins. Use a paperclip to jump the TEN pin and the GRD pin. This will put your ECU in diagnostic mode. This allows you to make changes tot he settings like idle speed and timing without the ECU automatically compensating for your adjustments. If you don't jumper the data link, the ECU figures the engine is just behaving badly and will make it's own adjustments to compensate for your adjustments.

If you click on the "Made a Donation" link at the top of this screen you will be taken to the forum home page. On the left column click on the link tot he "Online Manual". In the B6 Engine section you will find the troubleshooting section which tells you in great detail what to do if yo have no spark.

I replaced the disty and it's running perfect. Do I still need to Jump TEN and Grd?

You should get a gun and set the timing. Other than making adjustments you do not need to jumper the data port.

Glad to hear it worked out for you.

Timing gun, specifically and inductive timing gun. Essentially you clip this thing onto the #1 spark plug wire and it flashes a light every time it detects a spark. You aim it at the crankshaft pulley and it'll tell you what the ignition timing is.

But I don't even use one, I timed mine the ghetto way. I just rotated the disty until it idled the best.
