What do you think of these tires + rims for summer?
Re: What do you think of these tires + rims for summer?
I'm runnin General Exclaim UHP 205/45R16's on SSR Comp-C 16x7's, and the setup is awesome. I highly recommend the exclaims.. they don't last very long (I'm at 50% after about 10-12 months of summer driving), but they stick like glue, give very gracefully, and are dirt cheap. My only criticisms would be road noise (seriously who cares lol) and the sidewalls are a little stretchy... but as I said nicely predictable.

50% after 10-12 months = awesome in my eyes....Id be using them for like 5-6 months a year, haha. Theyre CHEAP!
Ive really been liking the RPF1's...theyre really light and durable and have good looks. Are a bit expensive though..They only come in 35 and 41 offsets... I dont know if 41 will be good enough w/ 205/55's on.

Re: What do you think of these tires + rims for summer?
If I can get 2 summers out of them, theyre awesome. I plan to go to the track only a couple times if I get the chance, but I squeal my tires all the time because theyre all seasons. They did OK when I had my RS, but I dont want a 195/60 All season anymore, except in the winter.
Re: What do you think of these tires + rims for summer?
Man, all seasons are just junk. Should go grippy, wide, low profile cheap UHP tires in the summer and narrow, high profile expensive tires in the winter. Figure ... what's the likelihood of losing control in the summer? .. and in the winter? That's where to spend the money. And it makes a big difference (ie. hakkapelitas).onlytrueromeo wrote:If I can get 2 summers out of them, theyre awesome. I think the ultimate tire for the MX-3 might be 235/40R16 on ultra lightweight wheels.

Re: What do you think of these tires + rims for summer?
235 seems a bit wide to me
I dont know if I'd want over a 215, POSSIBLY a 225 since I'd have to go big offset and could screw up my bearings and whatnot.
Good all seasons arent junk
I love the tires in bad weather - I've never gotten stuck and people are amazed at how well the car drives in the snow - minimal fishtailing and decent traction. No they arent snows, but I bought them for my RS and they have an 80000 mile warranty! Yes, I'd prefer to have summer/winters but I didnt have the option when I bought these tires because I wasn't the only one footing the bill (parents) since my car was under their name at the time.
Two years later, and I do want a better summer tire.
205's are perfect on a 7" Rim. 215's or 225's would do better on a 7.5" rim. 8" would be cool - look at the 949 rims I posted, they have them in that size. The General tires though do not come in anything bigger than 205 IIRC for a 15" wheel.

Re: What do you think of these tires + rims for summer?
215 is perfect on a 7" rim. I had a 205.40.17 on my 17x7 konigs and they were ok, but when I went to 215.40 they fit way better, there was abit of lip guard on the tire and it looked abit wider so it was better, not to mention you get abit more sidewall which is fine cause the mx3 fender wells are massive.
235 is to kinda wide, you would have to do some fender rolling for that. 225 should fit as long as you are not to low.
