i had to send the motor back so i will need to start on the new one when i get it.

oh ya?? what was the reason for that. did you get a bad one? Where did you get it from.

The DE retainers are a smaller diameter because they're made for the smaller DE HLAs. They still fit, you just couldn't do the reverse kl31-> DE.
I know it's kinda late info but it might help someone reading

i sent it back because the motor got damaged in shipping. The alt. hit the timing cover and broke the cam gear. I kinda f**ked up i didn't keep the broken alt, oil cooler, and i took off the intake and sent it back with out the intake and no cams either. I took them out to make sure they didn't get damaged too. so now they can't make ups pay for it because i took off most of the damaged thing. But they didn't tell me to leave everything on it. Its just been a joke! so now i have to send the cams back and they will put it back together and test it and send it back.
