The guy who did this first sold the motor not long after he did it because it was prone to over heating.

Thats true that he sold it because of overheating.
That what happens when you bore and stroke too much... but with bigger fans and a better radiator and probably a oil cooler, that problem should go away.

It is a 87mm bore now...and with the 300zx TT pistons is was still an non-interference motor. I will double check with the new 12:1 compression setup but i think it might be an interference motor now.

PS. The motor never overheated in my car....whether it was idling, cruising, or WOT. It always sat a lil under half on my temp gauge...and all my other engines have been the same.

did you just bore
or did you have to sleeve ?

Stock KL sleeves are one piece with the block...there should be NO re-sleeving done to these motors as i would say it will make them weaker.

This block was re-bored to a 87mm stock sleeves...still has an great amount of sleeve thickness left too.

I remember talking to mx6gt04 a few times about his overheating issues. I thought they could be resolved with a few few tricks, but he didn't want to hassle with it, so he ditched the engine.

On my next motor I wanted to do something very similar to what been done in terms of compression and bore, I didn't know what to use for pistons, but my main concern in trying to figure out what to use was the overheating issues with boring out. What did you do Slammed6 that the other guy didnt in terms of cooling and preventing overheating?

With the 300ZX N/A pistons, did you use/need the rods?

I did nothing different. Just my car has nothing in front of the radiator...everything is removed...so i have alot better airflow going through my engine bay.

I used the same Mustang 302 forged rods that were modified to work on the TT pistons. Its was a direct swap.

Sounds to me like its a really bullet proof setup. I remember Rebel2k talking about running at around 395whp.

I wonder if he got modfied cams for the engine. A port and polish on the intake manifold and the heads then you modify the head and you got yourself a good a-- setup i bet

I believe the rods were opened up on the Piston side to fit the floating wrist pin of the 300zx piston. This was done by crower...to the best of my knowledge.
