well, although this is freakin great and all, i'm not gonna hold off on doing my project. If it happens it happens, but by then i'll already be hittin the streets w/ my custom job. If they do get made and they are better than the ones I have, i'll just sell the ones i'm making and get a set. Simple as that

Good point Dave but there is a lot more to projector lights than a few pieces of moulded plastic. If you think of the tail lights theres not much to them. No wiring, not even any lamps or lampholders (you use the existing ones). And look at the price of them.

At $110 what is the quality of the projectors going to be like? Its too cheap by a long way. How much are the bulbs alone? Even at $5 each that only leaves $90 for 4 light fittings, persex cover, housing, adjustment hardware, wiring, plugs, packaging, etc. Even the assemby would be much more labour intensive.

As I said before, I hope I'm wrong but the simple maths of it just doesn't add up. Maybe they'll "do an ebay" and charge $110 for the lights and $400 for shipping. :D

but remember when everytime you tried to contact someone about makeing the taillights the company said that the tooling costs were way to high to take on a project like that.....but they came out anyway.....so i dont see why projectors are so hard to make especially for a company that makes them for many other aplications.....they know what they are doing so im sure they can do it quite easily

Agreed Dave, but the components and labour is much more expensive than taillights. And what was the original price of them? More than $110 I think.

DavidOS wrote:ok i emailed a company that makes headlight and taillights , they currently make after market projectors for mx6s,
i and told them there is at least 30 mx3s interested in a similar projector that they already make for the mx6 and if they could keep the costs similiar i would be the first to buy (around 110 us)

He emailed me saying that they had already made a prototye and for me to keep an eye open and in touch with him as they will be releasing something soon.

Any updates ?? or link to their website ??

i'll believe it when i see it. I contacted the company that made the lights for the mx-6 and they told me they had no plans to make jack for our car. Their distributor is in CA somewhere & i think they were a taiwan outfit.

As to my knowledge, most projectors/taillights are manufactured in Taiwan. Making a prototype won't cost much (technician can use fibre glass or epoxy to make the mold), but if for mass production, it needs a metal mold for stability, durablity and reliability, and that costs alot (couple thousand US$). As everybody knows, MX-3 isn't popular at all compare to Honda Civic series, or even Protege/323, no business will bear this kind of risk for such a niche market. I'm happy to see there're still whole lot of MX-3 out there in the States/Canada, but in Asia, people already forgot the existence of MX-3/Presso/AZ-3....... (but people did remember AZ-1!!! )

Cost Issue: Do you guys remember when Altezzas came out for our cars? What was the cost? Expect similar if not more for a cheap version of the lights. You get what you pay for.

Light Housing Quality Issue: Have you guys ever seen an aftermarket Honda lights housing? Looks alright. Build, could be alright. Mounting brackets are flimsy. Adjustment screws are crap. Front lens will most likely be acrylic made and without any coatings. Not to put down those with Civic converted lights. I am just comparing to OEM quality stuff.

Light Output Issue: Have you guys ever seen a beam pattern out of a Chinese made H3 based aftermarket projector that goes into most aftermarket "projector" headlights? Could be better.

Wiring Harness Issue: You most likely would want to build your own. Does not cost that much to make one with quality components. Or just buy Hella made one. If and If one is supplied, it will not be worth much.

I am not a Pessimist, I am a realist. The above is based on my personal hand-on experiences, what I have seen and what others have provided in the form of the information.

Would I buy a set of aftermarket light housings that are made for the projectors? Yes, may be. If the price is around $200. To me that would be worth for the housings alone as long as they are not ugly looking and are semi-quality. I would take the apart, paint inside black, throw out the crappy light units that they come with, including the high beam reflectors. The I would use my own optics for Low-beam or Bi-Xenon HID projectors and Hi-Beam reflectors or projectors. I would make my own mounting brackets inside as well as all the adjustment hardware. Front lens I would use Xpel sheets to protect from scratches. I would also reseal the darn thing from the beginning to avoid any water problems. And use my existing harness for wiring. But by then I will have made another set of lights for my car.

Just for comparison you guys. One of the forums I belong to, guys are direct distributors to Hella and Bosch. Direct from Bosch, brand new bare Xenon Projectors that go into Audi TT and BMW E46 for a set retail for US$170. Expect similar for Halogen quality projector. I am sure they buy them cheaper. You do the math, what a set of quality headlights cost to the manufacturer or what they will reatil for.

not crying wolf,

goto ebay search mx6 headlights or lights for the mx6 you will see a group that does halo proj for mx6. I emailed them and he specifically said to keep my eyes pealed for the mx3 headlights. They are currently being drawn up.

If you goto ebay and find these guys email em, the more interest the better.

Like i said in other posts i dont lie, i simply communicate and negotiate well:P

maybe bend the truth when telling them how many ppl want them 2 but still it works.

their company name is k2motors, ive ordered from them before.
and they confirmed it for me in writing via email.
