I have a 1.6dohc, when at the dealer the other day I asked the same question they said 2.7L.
I hope they are right , cause thats what I put in.
As for the idle problem put a block off plate on your egr port, I did an now I have no idle problem , I think they get stuck when they get older.

for a 4 cyl man tranny you need 2.68 liters or 2.83 qts
for A 6 cyl man tranny you need 2.7 liters or 2.9 qts

Sounds kind of weird to me....but anyway, I have the lucas stuff mixed with redline 75 90 in my tranny and it shifts way better than when I had just redline 75 90 in it. My 2nd to 3rd gear syncro is jacked up too. This helps it out tremendously.
