like justin was saying, it all depends on how serious you are with the end result. if this is just going to stop at a daily driver that you don't do anything else to, go with the cheapest route. if you plan on doing any upgrades or racing etc, think ahead.

i also agree that a used harness can/will create problems. you have to think, these wires are 10yrs old or older....not the best choice.

stick with something less than 3" thick. as for the rest, whatever you can cram behind your bumper.

you need driveshafts from a 90-94 mazda protege LX or 91-95 ford escort GT with the 1.8 DOHC and manual trans.

My opinion on the subject is nothing beats the bp26 ecu..
Sure if you are going to be racing at the track all the time and you are a _hardcore_ tuner the sure go standalone. Just make a note that by doing it that way you are just digging a grave for yourself... The haltech is like over a grand and then you need a laptop to tune it and on top of that you need a load of dynotime which is the only way to actually tune it.. Ohh and if you make a mistake tuning the haltech then you could throw a rod out the side of your brand new engine.

I know a few people who have the haltech and havent had good experiences with it. Get the stock harness and stock ecu and use the left over money to buy a bumper or a new set of wheels or something.

Btw, you need protege axels with mx-3 ends on them. :)

with as many people that have a haltech setup on a bpt, dyno time isn't that bad since you can get good base maps from other people. a haltech isn't just for "hardcore tuners", or for someone who is at the track all the time. it's for anyone who want's precise tuning, which improves gas mileage and everyday driveability, as well as performance. if you want to drive around with stock settings, go for the stock setup. if you plan on doing ANY upgrading, including running more psi, i'd go with a stand alone. what if you decide to get a different turbo later on? it flows more cfm, so the psi settings as well as fuel and spark will need to be changed. to each his own. i don't knock those who opt for the bpt ecu/wiring, but for anyone who will want more out of it than the stock settings, a standalone is a better route.

pro axles with mx-3 ends???

I coudn't agree with you more Ash...

I spent a little over an hour tuning mine. If I remember, I ran about 8 or 9 runs and it's running 11.5- 12 to 1 A/F ratio. It runs like a champ with no problems and no hint of detonation. I'd say I've had a good experience with the Haltech.

well if you want to get technical you need the joints and the shaft to connect them, it's got a lot of different names. go into a parts store say "i need a driveshaft", "cv joints","cv axles", or "axles" and they'll know what you are getting at.
Btw, you need protege axels with mx-3 ends on them.
the ends are the same.

Nope they arent..
The protege ones are a different size. They would fit into the transmission but the spline was the wrong size on the other end.

Mabey your experience was different but that is what I had to do with mine...

baah, i went to the auto parts store, bought 2 protege axles, put them in, and viola....they fit. and after dropping the tranny and putting them back in, guess what....they still fit.

Weird.. Mine didnt work out that well. I got the protege axels and mine wouldent go into the wheel part. So I had to use the ends from my old axels.. Quite strange.. Mabey its because my tranny is out of a 95 protege or something. :?

huh? :?
