Got the alternator today. Looks just fine on the motor.
Also got the cam gears back on with the water pump, and the tensioners for the timing belt are in place. Going to hook the timing belt up shortly and then put the covers back in place.

Update: Motor is in as of Wednesday. Would have been done today but waiting for a throttle body gasket (the motor had an ATX throttle body and so I couldn't use it) and 2 exhaust gaskets.

Looking good. (I mean, with the exception of that 4 letter word on your valve cover...)
So when are you expecting to have it running?

today hopefully. I have most of the wiring done with the exception of the throttle body and some wiring on the backside (oil pressure sensor, alternator, and still need to hook up the starter).
I also have to mount the power steering and a/c. Then I can mount the battery tray, battery, and intake.
I'm going to run it and flush the coolant system out first. I cleaned the coolant reservoir out so it looks nice and clean.
And yeah I'm looking for a Mazda VC or a 2nd gen. Mazda upper timing cover.

update:
advance ordered my throttle body gasket and it arrived. They forgot (and I forgot to check my receipt) to order the exhaust gasket. D'oh!!!
Anyways I decided to take today easy for that reason. So I got the following done:
-A/C and P/S are installed with belt tensioned.
-Rad hoses are on, as well as oil cooler to heater hose on.
-Alternator is wired up, and Starter is installed/wired up.
- my aftermarket oil pressure sending unit (for my gauge) is installed and now wired up. So now I can know what my oil pressure is haha. Oil filter is also installed.
- Driver's side wheel well is all bolted back up.
To do:
Passenger side wheel well
the other heater hose (I might replace it but want to see if advance has one in stock.. if not then I won't worry about it)
distributor
battery tray/battery
clamps for both heater hoses (need new ones)
intake
exhaust downpipe
after that I just need to fire her up and flush the coolant system. Adjust the distrubotr timing, make sure all belts are tightened properly, and then drive off!!!

I can save you the trip. They don't have it.
But if you take the old one with you, they can try to find something kinda like it. Otherwise, it's just 3/4" heater hose, by the foot.
And if you wanna go fancy on the hoses, Advance carries the Spectre line of stainless steel braided hoses, and they're not expensive, considering. If you want them, ask the guy at the counter. They should have the Spectre catalogue under the counter. You will need to order it, and wait maybe 2-3 days to be delivered, but at least you'll end up with hoses that will last much longer than the regular ones.

If you do anything like that see zack at the south hills store if hes still there, If not you know summits only like an hour trip from the city and you could probably get set up with some samco silicone hoses... just a thought. If you do its definatly worth the trip if youve never been there.

Update:
CAR RUNS!!
Only 1 code on the first try. Water temp. sensor but that was fixed in a quick second.
Flushing water through the system right now. Was a nice dirty brown from sitting.. so going to do a second flush.
Then timing the distributor and adjusting idle.
Also very loud right now from lifters.. but it seems to slowly but surely be quieting down.
Oil pressure at 2k rpms (where it idles now) is about 45 psi

It's been a while since I've updated, but not much really to report. The new motor runs great, and everything is going good.
New goodies:
-1st gen Mazda VC painted blue
-painted the heat shield silver
-Chrome door latches
-eBay custom oil fill cap
-Corksport blue SS braided brake lines (not installed)

I'll get some pics of the brake lines later, but just to note one of the front lines wouldn't bleed properly. So I have 3/4 of the lines on (both rear and the driver's front). I called Corksport about the one line, and they want me to try blowing air through it and see what happens.. i'll report back to them tomorrow and am pretty sure it needs replaced.

Corksport has shipped my new brake line
Also found out my strange issue I posted in the transmission forum about my clutch issue. Local shop I took it to for advice checked it all out and found that my slave cylinder was faulty. So I have a new one on the way and will install that.
