weight
My friend and I weighed our cars this weekend with 4 scales. Here's what i got: ..in lbs
FL FR
748 797
RL RR
425 433 Total: 2403
Left: 48.8% Right: 51.2%
Front: 64.4% Rear: 35.6% <-FWD
As far as reduction I have a cf hood, and removed some carpet and tar. The weight above is with backseat, all panels, stereo/speakers/amp/subs, so its nearly stock weight..2414..
Has anyone else used 4 scales on a gutted DOHC/MT? What did it weight?
BTW, My friend has an 80 rx-7. 2200lbs. 50/50 Left/Right 55/45 front/back <-RWD

Re: weight
2278.5 total wt. Don't know about the breakdown on front/rr etc. though. Anyway, that wt. diet is the result of several things removed. I'm getting ready to add 45 lbs back but it's all soundproofing stuff so ride should still be fairly light and super quiet too I hope.
Re: weight
My car is 2290lbs with a 230lbs driver.
This is with a protege lx motor/tranny both of which are heavier than stock.
I wanna get mine coner weighted though to see how ****ed up it is

Re: weight
Hunh, curious.. It is actually funny that I found a scale the other day to drive the car up on.. It came up 2720 lbs with me in it.. That is strange.. I do have alot of stereo in it so mabey that is where my extra weight came from..
93 MX3, BP, Haltech E6X, Bully Six Puck Clutch, Pauter Rods, Wiseco Pistons, Port and Polish, Turbonetics T3/T4 Ball Bearing turbo and a partridge in a pear tree.

Re: weight
Extras parts. THe BP and LX tranny weight about 75lbs (guessing) more along with extra turbo stuff..

Re: weight
What have you guys removed to get down near 2000lbs? perhapsadingo8yerbaby, is that with you in the car?
Re: weight
Does the word Everything mean anything to you. I still could trim off about 200 more but that would cost a lot of money and involve custom fab parts as well.
As is my car has roughly 60hrs spent on weight reduction. Triming wiring harnesses sucks btw...

Re: weight
Edit: Weight without me in the car was 2278lbs. That's a 95 RS dohc w/5spd. Don't know the pre-diet wt but found my file/list on specific wt. savings as follows. The wt. amounts were usually measured but some are approximate...Originally posted by Nick Bushong:
What have you guys removed to get down near 2000lbs? perhapsadingo8yerbaby, is that with you in the car?
Exterior:
-have front & rear mudguards
-have stock bumpers
-no front/rr wing or sideskirts
-SS axleback exhaust (-8lbs under stock wt.)
-removed now useless muffler/body heat shield (-3 lbs)
-Konig Helium 15x6.5 wheels/tires (-.5lb x 4 = -2lb under 14x5.5 stock)
-no rear wiper
-have sunroof
-added rear lower tie bar (+1lb)
-have rear drum brakes (lighter than discs)
Interior:
-manual everything except mirrors & sunroof so no heavy elec window motors, no pwr. locks, no cruise control
-replaced heavy floor mats w/lighter ones in front only (-3lbs)
-removed rear seat & hardware (-25lb)
-removed rear speakers (-3lb)
-removed rear seatbelts & mechanisms (-5.5lb)
-removed cargo cover (-4lb)
-replaced spare tire w/puncture sealer and 12v small air pump (-14lb)
-removed jack & handle (-5lb)
-replaced fr seats (-5.5lb x 2 = -11lb)
-removed interior panels from rear seatback line to trunk (-5lb)
-installed upper rear strut brace (+2.5lb)
-installed rear floor bar/brace (+5lb)
-installed 6.5 fr spkrs (+1.5 x 2 = +3lb)
-removed all but minimal tools (-9lb)
-installed B-pillar x-brace (+4lb)
Other:
-wiper fluid at -1/4 full (-4 lbs compared to full)
-Fuel level at approx 2+ gal. (-6.5lbs x 9gal = -58.5lb compared to full tank)
-installed front upper strut brace (+2.5lb)
So, that adds up to 160lbs removed and 18lb added for a net wt. loss of 142lbs. I probably missed a few things (like the 8-10lbs I've put on my own bodywt. since last year...doh!) I'll be adding approx 50-60lbs back in with roll-on mastic soundproofing, closed cell foam panels behind reinstalled rear interior trim panels, extra undercoating in wheel wells, etc. Still, will have saved weight, the car is structurally much stiffer and more responsive, and will end up with a nearly silent interior space, I hope...

Re: weight
Found some scribbled notes from me and my friend's "unauthorized" visit to a scale that day. 2278 weight was without me in the car not other way around. I edited my post above for correction. Damn, my car's heavier than I thought...
That's more in line with curb weight specs though-- minus what I have stripped out. Yes, I have airbags and a/c.
