Intake put on, now problems!

Post by SilverBulletMR2 »

Well i bought a filter, airflow sensor adapter, and a short tubing peice and hose clamps all in a kit. TOok my stock airbox off and put these goodies on. Drove around, sounds better, pulls better at high rpm, etc. Now when it idles it will idle like rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr----cough cough--RRrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
and the check engine light blinks on and off when it coughs real quick. THis is kinda creepin me, so i put the stock box back on for now. ANyone else have this prob? Its a 1993 1.6 sohc.

THanks for your help

Make sure that air is getting through the filter properly. Also, check the converter you found.

yeah air is goin in right..... all the intake is is a cone filter where the stock box should be. Is there not enough "resistance" in the flow of air? thats what i think it might be...

i dont fully understand your post. My intake just replaces the box, its NOT a cold air with the metal tubing. DOesn anyone else on this board have a small intake like this? There are no hoses to check for leaks, because i didnt replace any, the intake has nothing to do with any of the vaccuum lines...

did you reuse the stock boot because if not your going to have 2 lines that originally ran to the stock boot, one is for the valve cover breather and the other i believe goes to your egr valve if either of these are unplugged or leaky it will have a messed up idle. one of mine dosent have the best seal and when at idle it will occassionally slowly rise up to about a 1000 rpms and then drop back to 750-800.
