Drivers Window
Drivers Window
My drivers side window has been going up extremely slow. It got to the point where i would have to pull it to get it up. It then got to a point where it would roll up and it would just sit there and I could hear the motor just turning and clicking. Now it will not roll up or down. I hear the motor trying to work but no actions. Also both my auto seatbelts went out at the same time. Think its an electrical problem (battery needs to be replaced?)....thx

Re: Drivers Window
eh eh.
If the motor is running that means its not toasted. Changing the battery may help if your batt is old. A more common problem in the mx-3 is that the weather stripping inside the door is rotted and cloggin the window track. To fix this, take your door skin off and clean out any residue. While you're in there you might want to grease the track.
This information can be found in the search and i might suggest it be added to the FAQ.

I have this same problem, but my windows arent electric. Its EXTREMELY hard to roll my window up, one day I actually broke the handle trying to put it up. So now I have to pull it up. I got the handle fixed and it rolls down ok. What coule be the problem????

Re: Drivers Window
its a common problem for both electric and manual windows, i have both and both have this problem.
try to take the inside cover off, and grease all the parts that might seem to you cuzing the problem.
as you should've experienced, it will roll up perfectly fine when its raining!

Re: Drivers Window
Well then, I'm not the only one. kuruption1983 is right about the grease. However, this lasts for 2 weeks maybe 3. In the rain, it's great but soon after the rain is gone, it sucks again. It appears to be the rubber trim that the window slides through. It may be too tight on the driver's side. My theory is, wet rubber is slippery, dry rubber is slippery. However, rubber with a bit of moisture (not saturated) is sticky.
Well I checked the recall table and there's nothing there. I've just lived with the problem for 7 years.
If anyone has a solution other than kuruption's junction function, I'd be glad to hear it. Sorry bud, but I tried that already and unless you regrease every month . . .
one

Re: Drivers Window
Well it rained today and it started working....although it will go down about 2 inches and then stop and the window motor begins to do a "clacking" sound....I can put lightly on the window and it will drop about 5-6 inches and then it does the same thing again...I have to do that to it going up and down...any thoughts....possibly catching on something?

Re: Drivers Window
I read in the "Lemonade" used car guide, that the mx-3s are knows for the windows to fall of the tracks...or the gears outside of the motor to lose there grip. Mine did this. Im still waiting to get it fixed. I could hear the motor very nicely, but the window would not go up. Sometime is would go down an inch, but then the gears would slip. Tried to fix it myself but theres little room in there...

Re: Drivers Window
When I bought my car it did the same thing with my power windows.
I took the door panel off, greased the hell outta the tracks and pivots with spray-on white lithium grease.
Then I lubed the window channels with silicon spray.
It woke em right up.
Just for fun(and because I like racing ANYTHING)I ran em both after I did the drivers door and it was almost twice as fast.
I still spray silicon in the channels every now and then to keep em going good.
Re: Drivers Window
Yup, same problem here on both my MX3 and my gf's 323... both have manual windows. Compared to the other cars i've had, the window mechanism is quite cheap and has no adjustable tracks, rails, etc... which can usually ease stiff windows on an older car.
The only solution i have found is like the other posters here who recommended greasing the h*ll out of the window rails. I think the trick not to have to repeat this every month is in the choice of grease. I'm still looking...
although the silicon grease seems like a good recommendation... thanks...
Rob B.

Re: Drivers Window
i'll have to give that a shot...i sense my windows seizing here soon.
Re: Drivers Window
My car was broken into twice this summer and both times, the window (once on driver side, and once on the other side). I got the used window for around $40 from salvage yard, took off door cover, etc.. My driver side power window was much slower than passenger side, and not as responsive as the other one. When replacing windows, I also got a new power window assembly for around $50, installed it, and the window moves quicker. The other guy mentioned that the window on mx-3 tends to get off, and it might be true. I might have fixed window during the installation. The other thing you can check is there are some nuts holding the window glass and I believe 6 parts of that power window assembly is bolted on the door panel. If I remember right, you can loosen 1 or 2 of those and you can make minor adjustment, and that might solve the problem. To loosen them, you need a wratch wranch.
bungo
I usually try to do myself to save money, and sometimes, it's not that difficult for the jobs which you pay around 100 for mechanics. Not all the time, but as long as you got tools around, you'd better try, and you'll love your car more than before.
