Will this intake work on DOHC?

Post by MX3-Freak »

After I saw the CAI for the 4 cyl on ebay, I emailed the seller and asked who the manufacturer was. Aspec Air Intake Systems (maybe I'm just an idiot, but never heard of them) was his reply. So I did a search and it turns out they do make a kit for the Mx-3 4cyl. But it says SOHC on discription. My question is, what is the difference between the DOHC and SOHC intakes, and can I use this system in my 95?

If you need to read the discription here is the adress. Thanks

What do you mean? Why the hell would it say
"1993 - 1997 Mazda MX3 4 Cyl SOHC Aspec cold air intake system > auto performance air filter upgrade kit" then? If you're looking at the picture, you obviously didn't read very carefully. "item may very by model" is cleary stated on the top of the page.

Monty, do you have SOHC or DOHC...thats main question because I have a 95 RS... and it says for SOHC

Well, how well have you looked at the quality of the kit? The price is about 1/4 of a PRM and I'm worried the damn thing might erode away under my hood if I buy it. Thanks for info :)

And why do you say that?
They're saying that because the picture is an image of a short ram intake. Granted, it DOES say directly above the picture "ITEM MAY VARY BY MODEL", AND the description states "The Mazda MX3 Aspec Racing Cold Air Intake Kit relocates the filter outside the engine compartment for cooler air. Features mandrel-bent tubing made in two pieces for easy installation for your Mazda MX3". This would lead one to believe that the filter would be relocated to somewhere in the front bumper (where most Honda Civic CAI's relocate to). If that is the case, then it IS in fact a CAI. If the filter is simply placed forward of the engine but still in the engine bay, then it is NOT a CAI, it is a SRI.
