Engine Question

Post by Pauldb »

What other cars (Year and Model) can I find the SOHC Engine that I have in my MX3? Please help me with this. I could not find it in Search, and I need to try and find another Head for my car. Thank you in advance.

You asked this same question in a different post.

Answer: only 1992-93 Mazda MX-3's and a few 323/Protege's came with the SOHC.

Be sure to check GRO HARLEM's Post regarding Mazda B-Series Engine codes explained.

He gives pretty good detail on what engine came in what car.

Also-- Its pretty rare to have a cracked head ( I have never heard of it, but I am not a mechanic, nor do I know everything) Are you sure you dont have a cracked block?

If you have either-- replacing them will cost you the same as doing the BP swap.

1.6L SOHC -- CLAIMED 88 HP at crank vs. 1.8L DOHC-- Claimed 130 or so at the crank.

Dont waste your $$ fixing the SOHC-- do the swap.

Just my opinion.

Thank you for the responce. The raditor went and the car over heated. I replaced the head gasket a couple of months ago. When I first got the car. It would blow some smoke when I let it sit for a day or two with out starting it,, but would go away vey fast. Now all it does is blow smoke. I think its the head because it is leeking water down into the number 4 Spark Plug well so that it pours out onto the engine. So that seems to be the problem. It smokes from the tail pipe and under the hood. Its a mess, and I just want a quick fix or to get rid of the car before I spend to much on it. I was tring to restory it but too many set back have made that unlikely.
