New Member (New Problem)

Post by LooseChangeRacing »

92 RS 1.6 SOHC

Symptoms -
Car starts kinda rough (you have to hold the key for 3 seconds before the engine kicks in)
Idles at about 700 rpms but when you depress the brake quickjly turn the lights on or off and other things such as turning the wheel, it drops and dips.
When accelerating in any gear in between 3 and 4k rpms the power dips out. Usually when I stomp alittle, it will seem to die out then get alittle bit more power. I had the same car before and it had much more power.

(Second problem)
It's hard to shift, it engages and disengages fine when you depress the clutch halfway. But the actual shifter is semi-hard to put in to gear, aleast harder then it should be.)

Tests -
I've replaced.
Plugs/Wires/Cap/Rotor/Battery
Fuel and Air Filter
PCV Valve

I wanna new more about the TPS sensor and bypass air valve in other topics. Sorry to start a new one, but it's easier for me. Thanks.

hey i am not sure of this , but my car used to do act like that. It turnrd out that my air duct wasn't conected properly to the MAF, so look for a vacuum leak too.

It may be the internal coil in the disty, not the cap itself.

How would I go about checking the internal coil? Do you mean it's bad like I have to buy a new one? Where from, how much? Or like dirty like I can take it out and clean it....? I'm not quite sure what you mean. Also I'm not sure how to unplug my air by-pass valve stated in the other forum, I don't think this is the problem, but I'm willing to give it a shot and see what results I get. The main thing I'm worried about is that the fact that when I am trying to speed up, the car just doesn't have the power. The acceleration problem is the main thing I'm worried about.

Check the bushings on your control arm...You may feel an abnormal resistance to shifting if your gears don't line up properly during engaging.
Would injectors have anything to do with the lag in response?
