B6 vs. BP

Post by UnkleDuke »

Okay I need some input...
I can get a 94+ B6 from a wrecked MX3 for $300 or a BP from a 93+ Protege for $250.
Either way I will end up turbo charging it.
Considering cost and work involved, any input is welcome.

depends on your hp goal along with your budget.
Fast imports only come on two wheels.

True enough...Trying to do Anything better than the sohc, I continually forget about goals. However, budget is always an issue. Although the B6 is 50 more, I'm leaning towards it because I can pretty much drop it in.
I'd like to make about 150 to 170 stable hp on boost.
What are reasonable numbers for a tuned BP anyway, charged or otherwise?

it would actually be easier for you to use the bp rather than the b6. the bp ecu plugs into the sohc mx harness, whereas the b6 would require the complete harness....this is of course if you have the sohc.

I do have the sohc.
Isn't there some sort of issues mating the tranny from the sohc to the BP?
Just to verify, the 1.8 dohc from 93 protege is BP, yes?
I've done my research on B6's, but not much on BP's for quite a while.

the only problem is when those with the dohc try to use the stock tranny, the jack-shaft won't fit. with you have the sohc, you don't have a jack-shaft, you just have one long passenger side cv axle. you'll have no problem with use your stock tranny, though you'll have more torque steer.

But, i recommend using the bp tranny.

I just put a brand new clutch in back in August.
I wouldn't be able to afford the lx tranny right away, but I would want to go that route because, as I understand it, can handle loads more power.
To clarify, the B6 dohc has a different passenger side drive shaft setup?
So IF I decided to go B6 route I would need everything drive-shaft passenger side of the tranny to the spindle, or the whole tranny and shaft assembly?
Lastly, can someone verify for me that the ProLX is the BP DOHC? Cause in my parts searching I've come across SOHC...What's the deal?

BTW Marlon...If you're gonna be close to London let me know, I'd like to check out your setup. There's a dude here in London running a BP, but he's really busy with work all the time so I can never get a hold of him.

Before I get jumped on...Sorry for the BP sohc question...I just read G Harlem's B series post...And yes I'm starting to use my search button for BP info,
So the sohc is a B8?

if you have a sohc, then you already have what you need to use your tranny with the bp.

the sohc is a b6, both dohc and sohc.

Sorry...No, I meant the sohc Protege.
According to Gro Harlem's FAQ post it's a B8.

Okay,
I'm pretty sure on going BP...Now when I want to turbocharge, what option do I have as for stock-type exhaust manifold? Rods? Cams? Etc..?
