Protege LX Tranny Direct Bolt up?

Post by acid_mx3 »

hey guys I have a 1994 mx-3 w/ the DOHC and I was wondering if the Protege LX Tranny is a direct boly up or if other parts are needed to make it work. I'm asking as my tranny just let go and I'd like to upgrade my tranny now for Future Projects

No, if you're talking about the 90-94's, they won't be a direct bolt up operation. You may have trouble finding a replacement gearbox for the DOHC RS. I found that the 95+ Protege gearboxs have the same casings and WILL bolt right up. The only diff. is the gearing, as the Protege gears are taller than the original MX's. You can use the MX's speedo gear and axles with no problems.
