COOLANT leak...I can see it leaking..ahh

Post by simo711 »

Hey everyone. I got back from a 230 mile trip and right when I went to put the car in park a puff of smoke came from under the engine bay. I checked it out and kablam..it was a coolant leak in the big hose on the right side of the engine next to the distributor. I can clearly see it and I don't know what to do. Is there anything I can do to stop it for a while so that I can get it to a shop???? Such as a leak filler or clamp or something? Thanks...also, how much will I be looking at to get this fixed? Later and thanks everyone!
BlacknblueMX3

if its leakin from a connection use a clamp....or try some of that leak stuff you can get at walmart..worked on a s-10 i had for like a month then i put some more in few days later got it all fixed. duct tape held over a 68 cougar for 2 miles(damn fan was off and wabbled and would hit the hose slicing it) so you gots options for a temp solution.
i got a 90 pgt...but wish it was a mx-3 bp-t!

if it's leaking from the hose, don't attempt to fix it. just have someone take you to a parts store and get a hose and a bottle of coolant. no need to pay a shop to do a simple job. since it's the top hose you don't need to drain the whole radiator. just unhook the hose from the radiator and with a bucket underneath, drain whatever might be left. replace the hose and fill the radiator overflow to full. run the car until the thermostat opens. shut off the car and let it cool for a few minutes. open the rad cap to the first click and let the coolant/air escape. once you've relieve the pressure, remove the cap and fill the radiator.
Fast imports only come on two wheels.

Problem solved everyone. Bought a hose and 2 clamps from autozone. Replaced the hose with a hole in it and replaced the anti-freeze/water into the system. A OK. Thanks as usual!
Chris
