O2 Sensor/Question

Post by GuyverXL »

Hello,
Let me start off by saying that I've searched all the forums and have read allot of threads that will help me out.
But I kept running into this phrase "My car is running/burning rich" if anyone can help to clarify this statement that would be great.
Also, does anyone have a diagram of the diagnostics box showing which of the pins is the "TEN" pin. I would like to check the error codes but don't know which pin it is and it's not labeled.
Thank you

Valid question
running rich is when the air/fuel mix is off. Too much fuel not enough oxygen. This will cause an incomplete burn of the fuel and you will smell uncombusted fuel out the tailpipe and see black smoke.
running lean is the opposite...too much oxygen not enough fuel.
if your O2 sensors are faulty/dirty it will not work correctly and you'll start running rich.
