Just gotta 93 mx-3, I'm lovin it...anything I should k

Post by aqua93 »

I was looking for a car (with a 92 celica in mind) when I saw this one in the auto trader. Not being able to pass up a good deal, I took my new 93 mx-3 home. I must say, I LOVE this car, the way it looks, the way it drives, everything. (unfortunatly I had to learn standard to drive it and I'm still adjusting, so I can't fully enjoy it yet!) I don't know too much about these cars though, so I was wondering if there was anything I should know, look out for, or be sure to enjoy? Thanks! :)

What kind of engine does it have?
Is it a RS or GS?
Does it have stock exhaust?
I have a 1.6L 4-cyl SOHC RS with a Magnaflow muffler. It's slow but can go. The 6-cyl
MX-3 is fast.

actually...the V6 MX-3 is not fast. The V6 in the MX-3 is only a 1.8L Engine, it is very in-efficent. The 4cyl DOHC in the 94-95 MX-3 is 105hp, as the V6 is only 110. So you take the notes...
But then again, with the V6, it makes it alittle easier to put the KL-01 or the KL-ZE V6 in there, the KL-01 being 190HP and the KL-ZE being 210HP. They are both 2.5L engines, but the KL-01 is the A-Spec model and the KL-ZE is the J-Spec model.
[ August 15, 2002: Message edited by: white94mx3 ]

i thought the 1.8L V6 ran around 130 hp and the 2.5 KL running 170 hp with the J-Spec ZE around 200 hp?

Trust me, its a good car. I have a 92 GS (1.8L V6) myself and it was worth it. I'm going to slap on a bodykit, lowering, and some custom airbrushing and hopefully be entering some competitions by the spring. It isn't a car that people see too often and for a hatchback it keeps up with my friend's Mustang GT pretty well. Expect people to give you attittude because of its size and looks, but the V6 can take on a lot of cars.

according to car-stats and some other sources, the car does 0-60 in around 8.5 sec or so, not that bad, but not a race car.
Unless its an old civic, or he/she cant drive I dont see it as handing its @ss to civics.

Ok, im sure this has been said many a time. But stock civics are not fast. Not at all. Unless you are talking an si (the dohc version). If I am not mistaken the ex or the canadian si(125-130 hp) go 0-60 in 9.1 seconds....maybe from carpoint.msn.com
But I guess thats a pretty common misconception considering the vast numbers of modded civics...

IF you think I'm lying oh well, my brother owns a 1993 Mazda MX-6 LS and it has the KL-01 engine and it's 190HP "Dyno'd" and I have raced a MX-3 GS with my 4 banger and I whooped his a--. So You need to check the specs out again...

That's 135-140whp stock "Dyno'd".
MX-3 V6's had 128-132bhp with the K8 engine, depending on year and market. That's ~110whp stock "Dyno'd".
Yay! You might have beat an automatic K8 GS, which means absolutely nothing. I beat a FWD DSM with a 16G @ 18psi once, does that mean he had less than the 130bhp I had at the time?
BTW, what kind of turbo and intercooler do you have?

I used to know alot about MX-3's, but not so much anymore. Oh well.
