2.0L 626

Post by Franko »

If I had a 4 cyl out of a 626 would it fit into my 4 cyl mx3? what would I need to be able to do it... what parts? or would I need a 626 with the back end totaled or something so I could take every bit from it... some feedback on this would be really appreciated =)

the 2.0L out of the 626 is an f series motor, also known as the "big block" of the mazda 4's, just bore and stroke a bp, goto flyin miata.

according to the "gurus" it won't fit w/o major modification but I haven't heard of anyone who has actually tried to swap one into an MX-3 and knows for a fact it won't fit.

Its not a will fit or wont fit.. its not a direct swap to the bg chasis.. there are people who swap out a mustang 5.0 into a miata.. it fits.. just requiers welding and a whole slew of fabrication.

But I know for a fact that the 2.5l v6 out of a 626 will bolt directily into an mx3 so why wouldent the 4cyl be able to do the same?

Like if you had a v6 mx-3 you can just swap it with a v6 626 engine so I would think you could do the same with the 4 cyl's...

well you need to look into chasi......axles.....tranny...everything! look and fit out if they are similar or not. and personally, i know you just have the 626 but...id say sell it. granted its faster then the mx-3 but look for the 1.8 dhoc from the protege. came with better gearing than the mx-3 and 626. 3rd gear sux a knob! check into it though. cuz those 626 engines are good ones. check out corksport.com also
i got a 90 pgt...but wish it was a mx-3 bp-t!

Did you look into this any further?

Curious about taking a probe with the 2.0 and making it a bp instead.
